....early father's day question

Thankyouandgoodnight · 11/05/2008 18:36

DH made a HUGE thing about me forgetting father's day when I was PG with DC1. My family never really bothered with mother's day, let alone father's day, so I taken aback abit.

Anyway - DH bought me a pressie from DC1 on the first mother's day after she was born and said that it was only because it was the firts one etc. He didn't get me a card or anything for the next one but had gone out to buy nice pastries for breakfast for us.

Now then - I know it's a way off yet but what do I do for what will be the 2nd Father's Day since DC1 was born (I too bought him something special for his first father's day)?

Get him a framed photo of baby - you can add to his collection each year then !

beansmum · 11/05/2008 18:45

a nice card. fathers day isn't a real day anyway.

colander · 11/05/2008 18:47

One year I did hand and footprints of both DDs in a colour scheme to match our bedroom and framed them (it's a massive picture!) DH says it's his best Father's Day present ever.

yomellamoHelly · 11/05/2008 18:54

Ditto. My dh's favourite pressie was a mug with ds's footprint on it.

Shoshe · 11/05/2008 18:55

Make a card with foot prints of child to go with this poem.

Walk a little slower daddy
said the child so small
I?m following your example,
and I don?t want to fall?

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they are hard to see
So walk a little slower daddy
For you are leading me

Someday when I?m all grown up
You?re what I want to be
Then I will have a little child
Who?ll want to follow me

And I want to lead just right
And I know that I was true
So walk a little slower Daddy
For I must follow you

Shoshe that's such a fabulous poem!

I am just not sure whether or not I should be getting him something as he didn't for me this year but he made such a big thing of it before DD had even been born - I am everso confused!

Home-made card!!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 11/05/2008 21:56

I got dh a mug that says "best dad in the universe" for his first father's day. Think after that he's just got cards. Breakfast in bed as well.

branflake81 · 13/05/2008 16:40

Shoshe, my DP would probably guffaw sarcastically if I gave him that poem......

They do keyrings/cuff links.

berrieb · 14/05/2008 16:29

When is fathers day??

Nagapie · 14/05/2008 16:31

15th June...

wheresthehamster · 14/05/2008 16:33

Hang on. He got upset because you didn't get him anything for Father's Day even though he wasn't a father then?

Then he decided not to get you anything for Mother's Day any more?

Obviously follow his lead and just get some pastries.

Thanks nagapie.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/05/2008 16:41

DH is still going on about not getting anything for father's day last year. The fact that DD wasn't due until 5 weeks later, so I wasn't prepared, and we only got out of hospital at 4pm on the day itself seems to count for nothing!

sdjones2 · 14/05/2008 16:50

Mothering Sunday has religious and socio-cultural roots.

Fathers' Day has Clinton Cards written all over it.

My DC will have made cards and be too excited to deliver them to leave me sleep in till 1030, wake semi-consciously to The Archers, eat toast while in my PJs, shower alone, read the papers until the Grand Prix starts, watch in interested silence, return to the papers until a walk to the pub and then to Evensong.

Sigh. Anyone else remember days like these?

It will be up at 0630 in a shower of glitter and sloppy kisses and torn open envelopes, before being kicked out of bed (thus nicking my warmed dent in the matress) so I can get milk, tea, croissants, etc. Bed time Sunday night will be full of gritty glitter, crumbs and the smell of babies on the pillows .

Same old same old then.

cosima · 14/05/2008 16:52

beer

Yes that's what's so odd - he made a huge song and dance about me missing it and yes it was BEFORE DD had been born - he got in a really stroppy huff. Then he made a thing about presents only on the 1st mother's Day as it were and then was just aiming for pastries this year....

I personally don't care a rats arse behind about either mother's or father's day.

Oh and get this - he sends his mum £50 worth of flowers every year on Mother's Day....

Oh ffs...sounds like he is into competitive parenting. I would get him sod all. He was not a father yet so why make a fuss when you were pregnant?
I'd tell him that as he only wanted to get for 1st mothers day, well you'll do the same for fathers day. See what he says. If he says he didn't mean it, well say 'tough shite, I DID'.

Moorhen · 15/05/2008 09:17

Jammy, unless I've misunderstood the timings here, sounds like his Father's Day gift last year was a baby. Surely that was enough to be going on with!

Second the nice pastries for breakfast idea. Maybe with card written lefthanded (assuming you're rh!) to look like baby scribble.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/05/2008 12:56

Yes Moorhen, I'd have thought that having his wife and new daughter come home after 4 days in hospital would have been a fab present!

gingemum · 20/05/2011 14:15

Have a look at this website , you need 10 photos but easy to do My dad... book

thelittlefriend · 20/05/2011 14:20

how weird to want a present before the baby was born!!
