To pull daughter out of creche ?

Hi all.

My just turned 2 year old has had non stop coughs and colds since September. She goes to a creche 2 mornings a week. She hasn't had a proper night's sleep due to being bunged up or coughing in months. She has been checked multiple times by doctors who say viral, until last week a high temp, and more coughing was diagnosed as ear infection, which she had 5 days of antibiotics for. The infection has cleared but again, she now has a cold, with really runny nose and full of mucus.

I feel really bad for her as she has literally not had a break and is usually a happy, easy going toddler but is spending the majority of her time miserable. She's only actually is in creche 50% of the time since she's usually sick .

It's really affecting me mentally as I hate seeing her sick, I'm constantly worrying about her, I'm now afraid to take her anywhere at all in case she picks something up, I'm not getting much sleep with all the coughing etc, and my husband and I are having to take lots of time of work.

She hasn't been to creche in over a week now as I wanted her to recover from the ear infection. However, I feel like pulling her out of creche, can't decide whether to send her tomorrow.

I know toddlers do get sick a lot at this time of year but this seems to be more than the average child when even her creche are commenting on how often she is sick and friends with kids never experienced this level of illnesses. She has also been going for a year and a half now so not like she's just being newly exposed to all the viruses.

What would you do? I'm mentally exhausted trying to decide.

Thank you

I'd keep going tbh. This is how they build an immune system. My kids missed this with Covid and ended up being really sick constantly at school and having terrible attendance. It did pass eventually and now they only get a reasonable amount of childhood lurgees.

Is crèche like a nursery? Sorry I haven’t heard the term used much before so wanted to check before I reply!

I agree with pp although it's tough seeing them sick they will eventually build up an immune system but that won't stop them catching every strain of cold/cough etc. It's the same with school, there's always a cold, cough or bug going around but you can't just keep them out of school. Hope your little one gets better soon.

I agree... My youngest DD has had lots of school absence because she missed out on building immunity due to COVID... Way more than her sister who was in full time nursery from the age of 12 months.

It does suck though when you are paying a lot of money and they are barely there!

Thank you all, you have helped me make my decision, we will keep going and hope that it is building her immunity for the future!

@Job2Do - Yes crèche is basically nursery. Here in NI, we refer to daycare for younger kids as crèche

I always joke in our house we are always ill from Oct half term to the Easter break. Its constant one bug after another.
I'd keep going. It's hard when you are in the phase but it does eventually pass.
DS 7 is now in Year 2 at school and we hardly have any sickness absences (I think 2 since he started reception) - he was at nursery full time from 11 months

Definitely keep going, it's worth getting it out of the way now while she's young, my 4yo started reception in September and her attendance has been absolutely awful because she's had bug after bug. It would have been better if she'd got it out of the way as a baby/toddler but COVID got in the way of that
