What could this mark be on my one year old?

Hi,

I noticed DD has a red/pink ish coloured mark just below her neck when I took her for a bath.

What could it be?

She's learning to walk (15 months) but I don't think falling from that (she didn't cry) would cause a mark there?

Anyone know what it could be?

Thanks

Looks like a scratch to me, from her own or someone else's nails. Very easy to catch them accidentally, or them do it themselves. Have you got a specific worry about it?

Loveduppenguin · 02/03/2025 13:10

It’s not something that would worry me at all. Have you got a reason to be worried/anxious about such a small mark?

NuffSaidSam · 02/03/2025 13:11

Just looks like a scratch. You've got quite long nails, maybe you did it? Or she's done it to herself with a sharp nail.

Looks like a small scratch. This isn’t something I’d be immediately worried about, it’ll heal in a couple of days.

I have health anxiety (triggered by postpartum) so my brain is telling me it's a cancer mark 🙁 I know jr sounds stupid but I've had this with her since she was born. When she was young it was more so staying up at night watching her breathe and now that's eased its things like this.

She may have stretched herself as she scratched her cheek the other day (I do cut her nails but feels like they grow back the next day)

Although I have long nails I don't think I've scratched her as I'm hyper aware of how I'm handling her, although I'm aware it is a possibility as I've got longer nails

Sounds like you’d benefit from addressing your anxiety, OP. Have you spoken to your GP or health visitor. Don’t suffer.

Flamingoknees · 02/03/2025 13:22

It's hard to tell, but I agree with PP, probably a scratch, or possibly drool rash? Doesn't look like anything to worry about at all - certainly cancer would be the last thing on my mind. Are you receiving support for your health anxiety? Have you been assessed for PND?If not there is no need to suffer in silence.
Edited for spelling

Has she worn something with a zip that could have pinched the skin a bit?

Endofyear · 02/03/2025 13:23

If you're worrying that a tiny mark like that is a sign of cancer, you need help to address your anxiety issues. Are you under the GP for this?

It's just a little scratch by the looks of it. Once baby is on the move, they often get little marks or bumps and bruises.

Now would be a great time to seek cbt for health anxiety. You should have a local mental health service that can provide this if you google your county, mental health and cbt.
