How is this Omaze's fault exactly?

Redrosesposies · 01/03/2025 22:49

Exposed as what? It quite clearly states in he article that the winner would not be financially responsible for resolving any planning issues.

ByWildLimeCat · 01/03/2025 22:49

Exposed??

MyrtleLion · 01/03/2025 22:50

I thought you were going to say that the houses are not actually prizes or the winners were actors.

NameChanges123 · 01/03/2025 22:57

It's not exactly a scandal, is it! What point are you trying to make?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 01/03/2025 23:08

This is just someone jealous who had too much time on their hands going over the plans 😭😭😭

megthemum · 01/03/2025 23:09

the most unbelievable thing is a house that size and worth that much money is a 3 bed!?

It seems to come with 58acres? Its the land that bumps the value up, but agree, I’d want to alter the layout somehow to make a 4th bedroom if I won!

WilfredsPies · 01/03/2025 23:43

🙄 Finally been exposed? Exposed for what? They didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not a scandal and nothing has been exposed, other than some nosy busy body clearly has too much time on their hands. Omaze didn’t build the property and they’re willing to cover the costs of sorting it out so any prize winner isn’t inconvenienced. I won’t be entering because I don’t like the house, but if I did, that would sound pretty fair to me.

If you have a problem with their business practices, then be upfront about it, because this just makes you sound silly.

Kimmeridge · 01/03/2025 23:51

Exposed for what @purpleparrotthe

Your post makes no sense

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 01/03/2025 23:57

The biggest thing that annoys me about Omaze is the way they keep trying to make out that they - and the entrants - believe that the benefit to whichever charity it is is the best part of it all.

I mean, it's great that a charity can also get a sizeable windfall from the competition (well, depending on which charity); but let's not pretend that anybody is entering with the gain to the charity foremost in their minds! Nor that it's the main reason why Omaze do what they do in the first place!

You could say the same about the National Lottery, though?

MarieKlepto · 02/03/2025 00:28

Omaze properties have always had "problems". Not dodgy, but problematic. Under major flight paths, close to cliff erosion, one I know well that's a confusing money pit because of the land. The charity give is decent but if you win, be prepared for what's behind the scenes,

HashtagShitShop · 02/03/2025 00:41

The lottery doesn't credit check you though. I find that very weird when you're paying to buy a ticket for a chance to win.

PoopingAllTheWay · 02/03/2025 00:50

Ah, OP

That didnt go to plan did it 🫣

Stirabout · 02/03/2025 01:10

Not the shock I thought it was going to be.
If, there’s deemed to be an issue the winner won’t be liable to resolve it
and it’s highly unlikely the swimming pool and outbuildings will be an issue anyway.

IWillJustSayThis · 02/03/2025 01:10

Waits for the OP to make their point .... 🥱

Does omaze credit check people? 😭😭

Beckywiththegoodnails · 02/03/2025 03:34

I’m assuming the scandal is that I haven’t won yet?

No they don't

TaggieO · 02/03/2025 09:03

“Omaze has insisted that whoever wins the three-bedroom property, built to resemble the style of the Hamptons area of Long Island, will not have to pay to resolve any planning issues.”

Not sure what you think has been exposed, exactly, OP…?

TaggieO · 02/03/2025 09:04

“We do not run credit checks. Omaze do not vet checks to see if potential winners can afford the house. They do run extensive eligibility and proof of identity checks before entering into the conveyancing process.”

Nameynameynamename · 02/03/2025 09:40

I've heard the rumours about omaze houses being problematic...personally I'd be more worried about other costs involved with running / selling it, they must be astronomical?

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 02/03/2025 09:52

CautiousLurker01 · 02/03/2025 00:02

True - especially as their 'good causes' category is vaguely broad.

However, they don't advertise by telling potential participants tha the money for charity is 'the best part' - they know that most people only want to win the money!

If that were your main impetus and you didn't primarily have a big hope for personal gain in mind, why wouldn't you just give X amount to your favourite charity and gift aid it, rather than playing the lottery so that somebody else's choice of charities could get a very much smaller amount of your 'donation'?!

It seems obvious that they are 'tricky' properties which is why Omaze are able to buy them cheaply. The valuations they promote are miles away from what they paid for them. However if you give me a free house that 'could' be worth £3m if it didn't have any issues and I sell it for £1.5m so that the purchaser gets a bargain and has to sort out the issues I'm still winning!
