My neighbour and the crisps

I opened my window today and when I did a half eaten packet of wotsits fell out off my window seal and into my neighbours back garden which is bellow my window, 5 minutes later my neighbour husband knocked on my door to say about the mess in his garden and now to do it again. I did apaoligise and explain it just fell out I I pushed the window open but I understand how annoying it must have been.

He lives with his wife in the flat bellow and last night I had a grind over until 1am we didn't have music we sat on the sofa had a bottle of wine and a chat and he also said in that out talking went on to long and has since blasted loud music. We wasn't loud at all and it wasn't like music and dancing it was two adults sat on the sofa having a chat quietly as my children was in their bedrooms in the flat.

I'm feeling really anxious since all this partly because rather then the women come they sent her very tall tattooed up muscely husband and partly because I have been her 2 weeks and I feel like I've now caused myself a huge issue

Definitely avoid eating soup near the window.

He's trying to intimidate you! You apologised about the crisps falling out the window. The birds would have eaten them so he would have only had to pick up 1 crisp packet!
I will say though that if you were having a few drinks with music on maybe you didn't realise how loud it actually was at 1am?! Sound travels a lot when it's silent in the flat down below.
Just keep in mind in future that you could be disturbing them that late at night.
Don't stress yourself about it anymore. You've said sorry so hopefully that will be it over and done with

This is a non-issue. They thought you’d deliberately dropped litter in their garden. You explained that it was an accident. The end.

Why are you worried about having a friend over when that had nothing to do with the crisps or what the neighbour said?

What have the neighbour’s tattoos got to do with anything?!

I think you’re just overthinking this.

What’s the sound proofing like between the two flats? My neighbour would swear she was utterly silent and that we have a baby elephant stomping about up here. I’d respond with listening to her talk is like having her on the sofa next to me and I can hear everything from her rolling her blinds up and down to her using the loo.

He could obviously hear you talking, or he wouldn’t have known that you were talking til 1am. Maybe he thought he was playing music at his normal volume and it sounded loud to you because of the rubbish sound proofing. Personally, I’d advise you not to get too settled and to start looking around for something else. In the meantime, it might do to chat to them, saying you don’t want to fall out with the neighbours and would they support you in contacting the landlord about maybe making some improvements to the soundproofing, as you can hear them as much as they can hear you.
