I know IABU to abuse AIBU for traffic...

I work 12 hour shifts with a 1.5 hour commute 3-4 times a week. I tend to make 3 meals on my day off that DP can reheat when I'm on my way home and dish up when I'm in and showered. We're getting a bit bored of our current rotation so I'm after ideas.

Currently we have
Chilli
Spag bol
Spaghetti and meatballs
Mediterranean sausage casserole
Lasagne
Burritos (with the leftover chilli)

No allergies and we eat pretty much anything, except DP can't stand egg so no quiche.

TIA! 😊

Is there a reason DP can't cook fresh meals and instead needs to reheat? That'll open up some more options! Or perhaps those pre prepped veg / meat packs you can get at the supermarket or butchers and throw together a quick meal that way?

Just about any curry is as good or better made ahead! Try The Curry Guy - unfancy but reliable recipes.

FrenchConnection1 · 01/03/2025 17:52

Bean chilli (if your one is with meat)
Lentil shepherds pie
Chicken jalfrezi
Fish pie

Can he do traybakes? You could prep (if he’s reaaaaally not capable) but just shove all on a tray in the oven. We do chicken and potato’s/veg a lot. Cold pasta salad for the summer with tuna and sweetcorn/red onion.

gettingolderbutcooler · 01/03/2025 17:54

Chilli
Curry (river cottage one)
Fish pie

He does sometimes but he's not a confident cook. He does about 4 dishes well and we have those as well as the make ahead ones.
Cooking and meal planning is my job though.

Lentil shepherd's pie sounds nice!
Does fish pie reheat well? I've always thought the mash might go soggy!

How about lamb hotpot and chicken puttanesca?

Katemax82 · 01/03/2025 18:09

Google Gordon Ramseys curry in a hurry, he does a very nice butter chicken me and my son often make together, make double and freeze some

All tray baked.

Hunters chicken, corn on the cob , spiced wedges.

Mac and cheese, garlic bread.

Salmon, Mediterranean vegetables with a side of sweet potatoes.

creamy chicken, leek and potatoes.

Cajun king prawn and chorizo oven rice bake.

honey and mustard chicken thighs with spring vegetables.

Chicken or beef fajitas.

Scirocco · 01/03/2025 18:50

Chickpea and vegetable stew (stick in some red chillies for a bit of zing).

Lamb mince with spices, peas, potatoes/sweet potatoes. Just need to make sure it's well re-heated.

Aloo ki tikki (basically spicy potato cakes) and most pakora can be batch made in advance and go great with a quickly made salad. You can even batch make dips or use pre-made ones.
