Its not normal for your heart to start racing when toddler cries?

Every time my toddler cries or makes that noise which isn't crying but wanting attention (does it have a word?) my heart is racing and I'm in panic mode.

I don't know if it's because he's been teething for a while and I'm low on sleep, but he's 18 months old.

He's napping now but my heart is racing so much. I don't know why to do.

I'm not depressed or generally anxious but I'm going into a complete flight or flight mode. It's not normal?

I wouldn’t say it’s normal to feel panicked every time your toddler cries or whines. It’s probably normal to feel a bit anxious if you’re in the middle of a big weekly food shop and he’s throwing a tantrum in the supermarket. But if you’re just at home and your toddler whines for something then feeling your heart race does sound a bit extreme as an initial reaction.
Like you say, possibly it’s related to lack of sleep. And if he’s teething and been very whiny for a while then it does get to you quicker than if everything was fine.
I would say it does sound like you are quite anxious. It really might be worth talking to a doctor to be honest. It can’t be nice to live everyday with your heart racing, especially whilst he’s napping and you should have a chance to switch off for a moment.

Doctor has done an anxiety test and they say I'm not anxious so they wouldn't do anything further

Also not depressed

Or autistic

Or ADHD
