Justifying the patriarchy

What do you think about this? A high trending story on the bbc about a film that yet again legitimises the patriarchal approach to women. AIBU?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqjd051z5ejo

quoting the women themselves:

"What a lot of stripper films miss - and what Anora starts but doesn't go far enough on - is the moral question around men who buy sex," she said.

"It's the question of consent. Most of these films shy away from answering it, or looking into it."

She said it also frustrates her that these characters "never exist outside their profession".

"[Anora] is a pretty limited character," she said. "We never learn anything about her. The film takes the perspective of [male leads] Igor and Vanya, in defining who she is."

There’s not an awful lot of detail on the plot, unless you know different.

It all just makes me so sad. I wont be watching the film.

Any attempts to legitimise 'sex work' or the exploitation of women are mostly bullshit and serve the consumers of that exploitation (mostly men).

They dress it up as giving the 'sex workers' more 'respect'. They don't need more respect for a profession that opens them up to abuse, rape, injury and death, they need protection.

But if you say that you're accused of infantilising women Sad because choice is everything these days, even if it's not a real choice.

Men have always paid for sex with women. They can’t seem to survive without sex - I’ve always found it entertaining how the excuse for male ill treatment of women for a century or two was that women were driven by hormones! The question is how men view those women whom they cannot survive without.

Exactly this “They dress it up as giving the 'sex workers' more 'respect'. They don't need more respect for a profession that opens them up to abuse, rape, injury and death, they need protection.”

and I know @WaryCrow. But then if you question it, they will cite a few women who say they enjoy selling their bodies. There will always be exceptions, but what’s it really like for the majority?
