What are you like with your toiletries, cleaning and washing stuff? Have loads in or buy shower gel, washing up liquid and laundry stuff when down to about a 1/10th of a bottle left or 2 pods.

I have about 7 bottles of shampoo in as I have 6 bottles on the go as if I wash with the same shampoo wash after wash, my hair goes limp and loses shape. Even on holiday, I have two shampoos and alternate.

Remember about 6 years ago, my then workplace had a range review on anti-perspirants and I bought about 18-20 discontinued cans for 35p-70p each (under £10 for the lot) and they lasted me 2 years. Majority were the big cans
Cleaning and laundry stuff, I usually have 2-3 of bleach, WUP, laundry liquid.

For toiletries, I always have one spare of everything. For cleaning products, I buy a new one when the current one is nearly finished. We don't have the storage space for extras of everything.

When we move and have more storage space, I plan to get 5L Jerry cans of cleaning products so I can refill them.

Sinkintotheswamp · 28/02/2025 08:07

Yes. After a decade of being a lone parent with no support I've ended up stocked up on everything. Although now my eldest drives I was thinking I should start whittling it down as they can get stuff quickly if I'm incapacitated.

Toomanyusernamestochoose · 28/02/2025 08:19

I have parents who keep enough of both food and cleaning products to stock a shop and it would drive me mad. They would find something from many years ago at the back of a cupboard and it would no longer be useful/effective for one reason or another. It also would take up so much space.

I aim to be one ahead for cleaning products - will have one more box of dishwasher tablets/washing liquid/bleach etc and as soon as it is opened, I buy the next. We use refillable cleaning sprays so the refills are far more compact than a cupboard of bottles.

With hair/body, I stock up if price is reduced below what a usual offer would be. Sometimes may get a couple of extra to get free postage but I aim not to have an entire cupboard of them waiting to be used.

Loo roll is one thing I do buy for the whole year but that is because we subscribe to an eco-friendly brand of bamboo toilet paper so easier for receive 50 rolls at once and then they last for approx 11 months

1Dandelion1 · 28/02/2025 08:32

I tend to keep approximately 3 months worth of my preferred items. I buy then when the are on offer to make it cost effective.

AnotherDayAnotherIdea · 28/02/2025 08:36

I have just received my first box of this

https://www.goodcleanstuff.co.uk/collections/refillable-cleaning-sprays/products/10-multi-surface-cleaner-refill-sachets-mixed-fragrance

Completely plastic-free refills for spray cleaner.

61here · 28/02/2025 08:38

I have masses of cleaning products and toiletries! I have at least 5 shampoos out for use as I too can't use the same one else my hair goes awful. I tend to pick up stuff as I see it and I do have hoarding tendencies which I have had therapy for plus I know I'm a shopaholic! At the moment I have 4 boxes of washing tablets in and there's only two of us!!!

WonderingWanda · 28/02/2025 08:42

Cleaning stuff I have multiples on the go because I'm lazy so I keep some in each bathroom and the kitchen and just clean each room when I'm using it. Top up when things run out but there's always something in one of the other rooms if desperate.

Toiletries usually just top as needed. Again, usually some somewhere if I run out e.g. kids bathroom, wash bag miniatures. Only thing I tend to keep a bit more of is loo roll, and some spare toothbrushes.

gingercat02 · 28/02/2025 08:43

Cleaning stuff just one of each as the cleaner brings her own, I we use very little.
Toiletries one in use, one spare, once the spare goes into use, I buy a replacement.

Pascha · 28/02/2025 08:45

I buy new when I start the last one. If there's an offer I'll use it and stock up but never more than a couple of anything.

Nannyfannybanny · 28/02/2025 08:45

Tiny open plan bungalow, not much storage. I shop in Lidl,so yesterday was 10% off day,so I do stock up on basics, toilet rolls, kitchen paper. I only use one particular shampoo and conditioner, which I usually get on Amazon. I have to use a prescription wash for eczema and DH has very dry skin only used one particular shower gel, which we decant into a big pump. All bathroom stuff lives in the bathroom cupboards. Now,my larders are another matter. My DD said Armageddon, she's making her way round to mine!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 28/02/2025 08:50

Way way way too much

offmynut · 28/02/2025 08:50

I buy more if i need it.

Rhymetimegopo · 28/02/2025 08:51

With hygiene products I buy in bulk from amazon (6 packs) and then when we're down to the last one I'll restock that item. So I never have a large bill as its dribs and drabs.
Dd has an issue with toilet rolls and we can't go below 8 rolls (that's about 4-6 weeks worth for us) so I buy 32 rolls when we get to that point. We've never run out, never stockpiled but it's a hangup from all the covid news.
Washing powder dc have allergies so I bulk buy the persil tablets 4 large boxes at a time. When I'm on my last I look for offers and buy.
Cleaning like one in reserve so once ones opened I order a new one (or will order sooner if on offer).

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 28/02/2025 08:51

We are blessed with quite a lot of storage so that enables me to keep plenty spares.

They are all the same things though - same toothpaste, same shower gel, same dishwasher tablets etc. Quite a lot of my items are refillable - e.g. hand wash, shower gel, kitchen spray. Either jumbo packs that I decant or the undiluted versions.

Jollyjoy · 28/02/2025 08:52

Yes I've a fair bit in. I have a shopping list on the fridge so if I get to the last of something I add that on to the next shop. Toothpaste, shampoo, etc I buy in bulk or some on subscriptions to save money, so often have more than we need.

The bathroom cabinet is full of half used and now unwanted things, I really need to give it a clear out.

My mum was never organised and would always run out of things we needed. I hated that. So in response I think I tend to err on the side of more.

coolmum123 · 28/02/2025 08:53

Cleaning stuff I either replace when I get to 1/4 left. I too usually have stuff in individual bathrooms so not really need to stock up as I can usually find some if needed.
shampoo I stock up on so have 3 in stock as the one I used to use was discontinued and I had a hell if a tone finding something else suitable, I have a very sensitive scalp so can’t use just any product.
toothpaste I stock up on and toilet rolls.
I hate having too much stuff lying around so have found a nice balance of what I actually need to stock up on and what I can get as and when.

queenMab99 · 28/02/2025 08:53

I have a utility room wall of shelves full of cleaning stuff, it is covered in cobwebs.

Caspianberg · 28/02/2025 08:55

1 in use, 1 spare usually. Maybe odd thing like bars soap I might have extra if on offer. But this is plenty that I never run out

Poppymeldrum · 28/02/2025 08:56

I really wish I was the kind of person that could get to the last drops of a bottle, then buy more
However,I have enough soap to last me the next 4 years, washing powder the next year, cleaning sprays will last the next two, enough shampoo to last the next 18 months etc
I do it because I either see it on offer and I'm saving money or I can't bear to run out
I get it from my mother (thankfully that's the only way I take after her)
She once bought enough loo rolls to fill her massive attic-they lasted her,my father,2 of my brothers and guests/friends for almost five years
Her kitchen looks like a warehouse
I'm not that bad,but I am getting the jeebies as I have to remember to buy washing up liquid as we only have a full bottle left and I like to have at least two under the sink

HolySchmokes · 28/02/2025 09:01

I used to keep a stock and then I realised the sheer volumes meant I needed more storage and I struggled so I completely whittled it down and I now only get it as and when.

That said I do take advantage of some things, like I have shit loads of toilet roll but I have a massive cupboard in the downstairs loo for that so it’s fine.

and I’ve accidentally ended up with too many dishwasher tablets due to Amazon subscribe and save but I’ve sorted that out.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 28/02/2025 09:03

I bought these Monday shampoo and conditioners last year, mainly because I loved the bottles and they look great in my uncluttered bathroom. The product was nothing special so I refill with my favourites, Vosene shampoo and Pantene smooth and sleek conditioner.

Do you have plenty of toiletries, cleaning and washing stuff in
HRHPRINCESSOFFLUFF · 28/02/2025 09:04

KittenPause · 28/02/2025 07:05

I have a terrible habit of stocking up when items are reduced

So I have loads of toiletries and cleaning products

I really need cut down

Same, stockpile massively when products are on offer. Hate running out and having to pay full price for something. Got cupboards full of Kerastase shampoo, moisturiser, make up remover etc. in the bathroom and a garden shed full of washing liquid, softener and dishwasher tablets, oh and wine.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/02/2025 09:08

I get it as I need it and just keep the next one needed in.

Lovelysummerdays · 28/02/2025 09:08

I stock up when prices are cheap (discontinued) and when stuff is on special offer. For most things I’d have one on the go and a spare. Once you open the spare put another on the list.

I have no idea where people get coupons from? I have FOMO now.

Redburnett · 28/02/2025 09:09

Cleaning products: a vast array of products that are not used very often, including the biggest collection of cleaning cloths and dusters imaginable ...
I like shopping (or rather wandering around town looking at the few shops we have left) and can always justify buying 'useful' things.
Toiletries: not quite as bad, but how much body lotion does one person who rarely applies it need? I am a sucker for a special offer especially in M&S (those deliciously perfumed bergamot bath and shower products that were in a January sale over a year ago), and lovely soaps, my clothes drawers are full of them.
