Prob best to post on French Mumsnet but I think rind is fine.

What?! Yuck, no!

How on earth would you handle or a baked Camembert if you don't eat the rind?!

FartyAnimal · 26/02/2025 19:10

Does he just scoop the middle out and leave all the white? He's a philistine.

I really want baked Camembert now.

With fresh baguette, roast garlic and rosemary potatoes...yes?

TemporaryPosition · 26/02/2025 19:10

I trim the worst off round the outside, but not worried about the top and bottom. It's certainly not the best bit but its fairly inoffensive and seems wasteful, there'd be nothing left

Diningtableornot · 26/02/2025 19:11

It’s the nicest part of the cheese

EdithStourton · 26/02/2025 19:13

Why would you not?

SquashedSquid · 26/02/2025 19:14

It's the best bit. Especially when it's hot and dripping with olive oil, salt, chilli and honey.

theyreallyaredicks · 26/02/2025 19:14

Genuinely astounded that people don’t eat it, AND that someone went to a French cheese tasting where they suggested removing it?!

Absolutely integral to the deliciousness imo!

Stafanko · 26/02/2025 19:18

Yum, what a waste to leave it

Bfmamma · 26/02/2025 19:22

It's the best bit 😋 my mum didn't like it so I got all the runs!

Though what's blowing my mind is people eating camembert not baked?! Of course I know you can, but never known anyone to eat a slice of it 🤣

Vitriolinsanity · 26/02/2025 19:30

I love it as it adds texture

Ek1234 · 26/02/2025 19:31

I'm in the minority, I love camembert (baked especially, with crusty bread!) but detest the rind (although I know full well that it's edible). I always scoop out the middle. Luckily my other half loves the rind so it never goes to waste. Win win.

Unfortunate typo there 😜

GroovyChick87 · 26/02/2025 19:32

I love the rind. It's the best part. Imo people who complain about the rind don't really like the cheese.

coldcallerbaiter · 26/02/2025 19:32

The rind smells and tastes bad to me. I scoop the innnards.

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/02/2025 19:33

He has clearly muddled Camembert with Edam. Silly DBro.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2025 19:37

What the heck is the point of Camembert if you don't eat the best bit?

Sourisblanche · 26/02/2025 20:03

I eat some of the rind but mostly scoop out the inside with a spoon.

MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking · 26/02/2025 20:09

No, no, and thrice no. Just as well your DB has some sense.

WonderingWanda · 26/02/2025 20:13

Do you think he's got it muddled up with Edam?

DaveWatts · 26/02/2025 20:14

I love the rind but I do find that it can be a bit bitter on a very mature French brie or camembert (as opposed to supermarket ones which tend to be much milder). I suspect that was the type that the pp was given in the cheese shop in France! This is why I prefer Somerset brie to brie de meaux (don't hate me, I do like proper stinky cheese too!)

Generally I think the rule is that if the rind is white it's OK to eat.

SauvignonBlanche · 26/02/2025 20:20

Only savages don’t eat it!

Liz1tummypain · 26/02/2025 20:45

Nom nom, yes pleasey!

AdaColeman · 26/02/2025 21:20

For those of you who don't like the rind, have you tried Crème de Camembert, no rind at all, just creamy cheese! There is also Crème de Brie, both made by President.
