3.5 year old in buggy

I just took my 3yr 8month child to a GP appointment. She said to my child “do you still need a buggy?”. Child is autistic and has severe learning delays and no sense of danger/very physically aggressive. GP surgery is 2.6 miles walk along busy rural roads without proper pavements. Should I be making him walk this? I feel like no one would think it’s odd if I drove him there so why is a buggy any different?

My LB turned 3 last month and still uses a buggy. He wants picking up otherwise. We do sometimes make him walk but for the most part it isn't convenient to risk the tears, when we need to get somewhere fast. He is gradually wanting to walk more, so it'll happen. Just like everything else they go through and eventually stop - co-sleeping, dummies, breastfeeding. I remember my buggy breaking with me in it because I had outgrown it!

Nobody's business!

Not a doctor, but I had a parent sneer ‘I think he’s too big for that’ at my 3.5 year old on the school run once. I was heavily pregnant and he had/has autism with global delays. He’s always been much bigger than his age range, which didn’t help. The 10 minute walk from the car to the classroom was hell on earth without it, he was either running off or dropping to the ground. I had SPD in all my pregnancies so by this last one I was in agony, I have never wanted to tell another adult to fuck far far off so badly. That baby is now the same age and also still uses a stroller at times, shockingly (not) he’s also awaiting an autism diagnosis. I’m not sure if I’d complain, but it’s just another notch on the ‘people who just don’t get it’ post, it’s endless when your children have additional needs.

Personally never used one, but maybe get a buggy sign that says ‘this pram is also a special needs stroller’?

Complain a) she is a medical professional with access to your child's medical records, so should be able to work out the answer. b) Even if she couldn't work out the answer, it's a question for the parents not the child.

How rude! It's not relevant to your appointment
DS2 was a bit of a lazy Walker so was happy in his buggy until 3.9 when I had his brother.
DS3 was a late August baby, so was 4 and 3 days when he started school
I used to pick him up from school with the buggy in case he was tired
I don't drive
Ignore everyone else and do what works for you and your DC

“Do you still need a buggy”
“yes, due to X, Y and Z”

Simple question, simple answer … not sure why it needs hand-wringing and complaints
