Conjunitivitis, aibu?

Aibu to think a DC should not be in nursery if they have conjunctivitis? The GP apparently would not prescribe eye drops so they came into nursery with very runny, green, oozy eyes.

You can buy the eye drops over the counter.

I wouldn’t send my DD in with it. It’s unfair on her and the nursery staff and other children.

Coconutter24 · 25/02/2025 21:56

If they feel well then they don’t have to stay home

nhs advice is that they don’t need to stay away from nursery and the advice is just to let it run its course the same as a cold so the parent is just following nhs advice and so is the nursery

I think there are different types of conjunctivitis and with the one of them you just wait.
Personally I wouldn’t send my child with it. I had conjunctivitis in the past a few times and found it really unpleasant, you really don’t want to be out and about with it.

All nurseries will have different policies but the nhs guidance is that they don't have to stay away from school or nursery unless they are feeling unwell with it so although it's unpleasant, the parents are doing nothing wrong.

No need to stay off school or nursery.
