I know a women who genuinely thinks she's gods gift, she posts about how beautiful she is and we recently had a bit of an argument over message about something and she brought up that I'm just jealous of her and trying to copy her and everyone always does, this is absolutely not the case but it annoys me she thinks this is true, I've encountered a few women like this over time and it really grates me, do people genuinely believe this if someone has an issue with them, can someone really be that in love with themselves?

Yes they can!

Are you in your teens?

nadine90 · 24/02/2025 00:10

Haha, yes unfortunately I have had a couple of friends like this over the years. One was an only child and her mother was constantly telling her people were jealous of her. Didn't matter how in the wrong she was, she truly believed that anyone who had an issue with her selfish behaviour was just jealous.

Why are you friends with people you don’t like? Are you Veronica from Heathers or what?

PaintCatsPaint · 24/02/2025 00:28

Some people really are like that, yes. It would be nice to think they’d grow out of it during their teens but that hasn’t been my experience, sadly. They’re best avoided if you have that option. You can’t get through to them so it’s not worth trying.

I believe these often (not always) results from deep rooted insecurities so they need to reinforce and validate themselves continually.

But why are you letting it get to you OP?

Pinkdreams · 24/02/2025 09:06

It just makes my blood boil having her think I'm jealous of her and not see all the wrong doings but like a previous poster said, you can't get through to them

Are you jealous?

(giggle)

Of course they do! Have you not noticed that whenever there's a thread on here about someone not being nice, people always say the nasty person is jealous? People are actively encouraged to see people disagreeing with them as rooted in jealousy. Also, have you never read any of the 'what's it like to be beautiful?' threads? Never a shortage of folks coming on to say that they're show stoppingly gorgeous, and it's a bit rubbish because other women are jealous and hate them.
Personally I've never seen anyone who's beauty is such that every single woman would not only agree they were as beautiful as they claim, but also be jealous, as beauty is so subjective. Yet clearly they themselves believe they are. Tbh there's no harm in it if it makes them feel good. It's only when it causes them to put everything they don't like down to other women's jealousy, like your friend it becomes unfortunate.

She is a dick.

There have been times in my life when I thought I was brilliant and beautiful In the very distant past So it happens. I never thought that other people were envious.

CreationNat1on · 24/02/2025 10:46

There has been times I thought other people were envious, and they were, I know, because they told me so.

People levelling you down for no reason is unpleasant. It can happen, it's not the answer to every gripe but it's particularly prevalent in more immature people. Endless victims of their own insecurities and attention seekers, looking for hooks to attention seek from, drilling up drama for entertainment.

Forget about them, walk away from people you don't gel with. We don't have to teach everyone the errors of their ways, we can just leave them to it.
