Why do people put naked kid pics on profiles etc..

So a few years ago I purchased an item from a second hand item website thing and went to collect it from the owner. We exchanged numbers so she's in my WhatsApp thread. At the time her profile pic was non remarkable, I don't remember it. A dog or something probably.

Anyway, last night I was scrolling through all my past WhatsApps going back to threads when my mum was alive etc.. and remembering things from a few years ago and I saw this number and the thread from when I bought the item. But when I clicked on the profile pic to see it more clearly, it was two children about 9 and 4, fully naked with their legs apart sitting in the bath. No bubbles in the bath or anything and the water was v shallow and clear. You could see both their fully naked bodies barr a small heart emoji on each child to just cover their bits.

This made me feel sooooo uneasy. Why would you put your children completely naked with legs wide open, as a profile pic that anyone can see? I just felt instantly uneasy and that these kids were in a very vulnerable position.

It reminded me of a few friends that will post random Facebook pics of their children in little swim pants or whatever.... I mean why? Not really as bad as a fully naked pic I suppose but still unnecessary and where's the consent?

Does anyone else feel uneasy about these kind of pics being made so public?

Would it be way OTT to send the WhatsApp profile pic to children's social care and just say 'saw this and it doesn't sit right?'

It is a form of paedophilia yes. What you do with drat is up to you. It seems very odd, the lady might have changed numbers and it might be being used by someone else, so best to report Most likely.

That isn't a normal photo.

Theuniversalshere1 · 23/02/2025 09:14

Tbh I'd report it to the police as it seems like it might be a number used for other purposes.

Theuniversalshere1 · 23/02/2025 09:15

It's an awkward one 😳

Floogal · 23/02/2025 09:16

I've often wondered why people do that. I used to get annoyed when in the summertime women at the beach or park would let kids run around naked or in underwear, but keep their own modesty protected. I agree, it's about consent and the risk of sexual predators viewing the pictures.

MumBikini · 23/02/2025 09:18

Thanks for your replies. I just was quite shocked when I saw it and thought - 'who would have that as their profile pic?' I felt quite angry to be honest, on behalf of the kids.

What's the difference between a kid running round in pants or trunks?

My DD has run round in just her knickers before on the beach / in rivers etc , because it was spur if the moment thing.

It sounds like the kind of profile picture a paedophile would use though. It's common in Instagram etc, to let people know who are in the know... but seem "innocent" to others.

I thought more people would be award of things like this now.

Regardless if is a form of paedophilia either way and needs reporting.

If if is the lady, she will get a slap on the wrists n told not to do it again. If if isn't, then...

Either way. It 100% needs reporting. To the police.

Thanks. I will look to report it to the police tomorrow.

Either because they're nonces themselves, or because they're incredibly stupid and naïve and it doesn't occur to them what kind of person might be able to get access to those photos if they put them anywhere near the internet.

holju · 23/02/2025 09:22

The heart emoji makes it worse really. May have innocent intentions but it's hugely inappropriate, very different from posting a picture of your kid on the beach in a swimsuit on holiday (though personally I don't post any pics of DC) . I doubt childrens services will be interested though.

Op, to post here and what you've described.... it doesn't sound like a usual family pic does it? You know what you need to do.

It stirred a reaction in you for a reason. Because it isn't normal.

Good I'm so glad, it's set my alarm bells off too!

MumBikini · 23/02/2025 09:24

Thanks everyone. I'll pop into the police station tomorrow and show them

Parents do put degrading pictures of their kids up and I’ve no idea why they do it.

a relative put a picture up on fb of her child naked but tried to blank out his willy, however it was still visible so I reported it and fb took it down.

i know a few people who have children with SEN and they wear nappies (children are between 8-12) and they post pictures of them with just a nappy on etc. it’s degrading.

Exactly, women can be predators too
