Sandringham School Herts and Queenswood

Following on from another thread, I am looking for some information on the above 2 schools.

I got some great advice on HFA so reaching out again...

My daughter has decided she wants to do Fashion and Textiles, graphic design and photography. These A levels are hard to find all in one school. Looking around St Albans way, these seem to be the best schools for her in A level. She would love to dance as an extra curriculum activity, but she could also potentially go into London to do this aswell.

My concern about Sandringham is catchment area and also that we will not be moving from the USA until the July of the year she will attend - so we will not have an address when we apply near the school in the UK. Has anyone just been through the process with them? Someone mentioned that catchment didn’t matter too much for 6th form.

Our other option is Queenswood, anyone have a daughter there who is creative? and do you recommend boarding over day?

Anyone have any other ideas of schools that might be able to support what she is looking for.

thank you in advance.

Not what you asked but those A levels are going to be very limiting for post A level education, There would be very few university courses that would accept that combination. Also, creative arts A levels can be very time consuming and stressful if they require a lot of course work. Does your DD know what she wants to do after school? Maybe a BTEC might be a better choice than A levels for her.

@KnickerFolder

you suggest she does a core subject? I just wouldn’t know which one. We are mooing from USA where the curriculum is very different and she will likely be behind on a lot of subjects. She does get extra help with English from a UK tutor once a week - the goal is to get her to GCSE level. But English is not her thing. Maths maybe would work for her - but I still need to compare to 2 curriculums. My eldest daughter did Math, chemistry and biology at A level and she know what she wanted to do. My youngest is very, very different and a little harder to plan with.

She is incredibly creative, dances at a very high level loves her camera and making things (textiles) She care a lot about make up and clothes, I can see her doing something backstage. But I get your point and I was hoping Graphic design might also help her in degree choices (if she decides to go) - which I would not be opposed too if she doesn't and wants to get out into an apprentice or straight to work. My husband feels very differently.

We do have the advantage of knowing a lot of designers, my husband is a graphic designer and worked in London for years and very a very successful make up artist in the UK. But you are right she does not know really what she wants yet.

I have looked at many A level choices but hadn’t considered what you need to get into university so I will look at that too.

Thank you.

st the moment she is hoping to come back to the USA for university and I believe they would require a SAT 9exam rather than look too much at A levels. Some schools in the UK do help with that process, but as I go through it with my middle daughter it is very normal (where we live anyway) to have a private tutor. Seniors here can take it multiple times to get a good score.
