Described as a Powerhouse - how do you take it?

For context, several founding members of a hobbie I've recently joined, have put my name forward to be a lead of the Group. One of their reasonings was because I am a 'Powerhouse' apparently. Would you take that as a compliment?

I think I would (but I'm not one!)

I've never heard it in a negative way. It's just someone who can get stuff done!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/02/2025 13:32

Yeah, it's like calling you a boss babe, but is a term used by the older generation

Like Peggy Mitchell 🥰 - commands respect, is well liked and trustworthy

Edit - not that you're old! Just means that you're respected x

Dueanamechange2025 · 21/02/2025 13:33

Strong and powerful, gets shit done.

Loopytiles · 21/02/2025 13:35

I think it depends on what the activity is. If physical it’s positive, if something arty it’s probably not.

Either way, in line with being a ‘powerhouse’ I’d not agree to others’ requests for me to give more time/resourced to an activity group than I’d planned to or now wanted to

SleepyLlamaFace · 21/02/2025 13:37

I would only ever use and receive this as a massive compliment!

MargaretThursday · 21/02/2025 13:49

Hmm. Not sure.

I'd see it as someone who gets things done. It could be like a bulldozer, pushing through what they want without thinking of the rest. Or it could be much more diplomatic, listening and getting things done that the group on the whole know need doing but haven't the time/energy/force to do.

So it could be a compliment or not.

Upstartled · 21/02/2025 13:50

Absolutely, it's a great compliment.

SexAndCakes · 21/02/2025 13:51

Compliment.

TheSandgroper · 21/02/2025 14:12

Absolutely it’s a compliment. You have faked it (if that suits here) until you made it. Huge congratulations.

However, you have been put forward for a leadership role. You have not volunteered. Being put forward and volunteering are two different things.

Have a good think about what you want to do and powerhouse your way to doing just that. If that means not taking the leadership role, keep powering on going your own way. If you want to say no, say no and stand firm.

Loopytiles · 21/02/2025 15:18

If the activity is crafting / art / book club or something ‘powerhouse’ could mean productive and good at it, or it could mean domineering of conversation & opinionated.

bloodredfeaturewall · 21/02/2025 15:19

powerhouse - good at organising and taking no shit

Rosecoffeecup · 21/02/2025 15:22

Compliment - means you get things done, have your shit together and people listen

SoftPillow · 21/02/2025 15:35

To me it’s a compliment. You get things done, you move forward positively, you are seen as someone who is successful and driven

BIossomtoes · 21/02/2025 15:41

Fantastic compliment. I’d be delighted.

Snowmanscarf · 21/02/2025 15:47

It’s a compliment, but with a slight tinge. Ie, it means you’re able and can get things done, but also could be a bit to dominant.
