to be having a last minute panic about leaving my son tomorrow?

My husband and I are both doing a first aid course with the red cross tomorrow which goes on all day so we're leaving my son (12 months) with his sister. I haven't really left him with anyone before (he's been with my parents for a couple of hours, but that's when they've been visiting for a few days and he's got used to them) and I'm panicking I'm going to scar him emotionally forever as he doesn't know my SIL all that well and he's pretty clingy (which is a vicious circle as that's one of the reasons why I haven't left him before). Handily enough my SIL lives next to where the course is taking place so I could pop back at lunchtime but I don't know if that would just make him upset again.

it won't scar him for life - a lot worse happens without scarring.

enjoy the first aid course.

He'll be fine!!!!

nobodysfool · 09/05/2008 21:12

He'll be fine after a bit.

I hope the course is interesting enough to keep you stimulated and not think about your DS too much (dreadful as it sounds). Good luck.

Thanks! I just don't like the thought of him feeling abandoned. This motherhood thing - does the guilt ever lessen?!

nOPE.

AMAZINWOMAN · 09/05/2008 21:33

can you ask your sister to send you text messages (and keep your phone on silent) then you can check at break times.

ladymariner · 09/05/2008 21:47

He'll be fine, and he'll enjoy the change. You'll then have a lovely weekend with him
I wouldn't go and see him at lunchtime though, even though I'd be desperate to, simply because even if he's having a ball when he sees you he'll naturally assume you're going to be staying, then he will get upset when you go again for the afternoon. Grit your teeth and have massive hugs and kisses ready for when you go to collect him!!

oh FGS

Of course you were all right and he was absolutely fine - didn't give two hoots apparently! He has been a complete nightmare tonight though - 3 hours of trying to put him to bed and he's still fighting it. Still, at least I know what to do now if he chokes on a meatball or blows his fingers off with a firework - the course was really good.
