Any spinal experts, physiotherapists etc out there? MRI from 2018 posted, Schmori’s node detected in L4. My back pain is getting worse.

Just throwing this out there in case there are any experts who can read this MRI from 2018, with a view to suggest possibly requesting a further MRI due to increasing back pain?

Little things can set it off, sometimes just sitting on a different settee. It can trigger pain, my body reacts, I often stand shaped like the letter S during an episode (if that makes sense 🤣)!

I do have Crohn’s disease and this is why I was offered an MRI back in 2018, just to rule out spondylitis, none detected thank goodness.

Just wondering what if this Schmori’s node could have worsened? My back pain is low back pain, this node was detected in L4, now 7 years ago.

I am due to see my consultant so I will speak to him or my IBD nurse about this. OR should I see a physio? Nothing was suggested at the time back in 2018 but tbh I didn’t really follow up with the back issue.

Only posting here as it’s usually the busiest area.

The correlation between mri findings and pain is very limited. The red flags for needing an mri would be reduced sensation in one or both legs, reduced muscle power in your legs, loss of bladder/bowel control. As its L4, your sensory changes would most like be down the front of your thigh(s).
Degenerative changes are quite standard from 40's onwards, but if you were much younger than this when the scan was done, then it might benefit from further investigation.
But if you are worried, always visit your gp.

@Bushmillsbabe thank you.

Scan was carried out when I was mid 40s. Looks like it’s more age related then. Would working on my core strength help?

Working on core strength is always helpful, maybe book a one off with a physio for help on how to do this correctly.
