Such a great company, and so many like this company can no longer survive in Britain supporting British jobs.

Whilst RR is sucking up to the Chinese to make the most of cheap manufacturing in a country with a terrible human rights record, and no attempt at ‘net zero’ using electricity from polluting coal-fired power stations on instead of supporting British manufacturers.

It makes me so so sad.
RR and the government are complete hypocrites.

Yeah, the sole reason that a company selling rucksacks priced at £170 upwards has closed is Rachel Reeves. She is personally responsible for the success and failure of every company in the UK.

Also, Wes Streeting is personally responsible for my cold. How do I bill him for the Kleenex?

Reeves is fucking useless, obviously, but even I’m not convinced this is entirely her fault. Inflation rising though? Eeeeeeeek.

VolcanoJapan · 19/02/2025 15:42

15 years selling overpriced backpacks, I mean £200 plus for a backpack.

They aren't closing due to a government that was elected in July, that's for sure.

Inflation is rising due to the global increased cost of meat, cereals, air fares and private school fees. Only the last one is under government control, and that not even completely, given that private schools tend to hike fees by above inflation figures most of the time.

Doggymummar · 19/02/2025 15:45

The letter from the owner says it has been hard for a number of years. Not just since Labour took over, so No it's unlikely to be Rachel Reeves fault

Inmydreams88 · 19/02/2025 15:57

Sick of 'lets blame labour' for everything. If this carries on we will have reform elected at the next election and we'll be as fucked as America.

ExtraOnions · 19/02/2025 16:03

…or maybe they are now unable to sell to Europe due to increased fees from Brexit, cutting the market down ?

Ankhmo · 19/02/2025 16:12

Trakke charge £££ for £ worth of material and wonder why they don't sell.

Ridiculously over priced stuff that they tried to sell to a tiny minority of people that some are trying to label "The Carry Community"

They're bags FFS. They're to take shite from A to B. There's only so many people with more money than brain cells that will spend £££ on a bag.

BIWI · 19/02/2025 16:13

From the financials it looks like their problems started in 2021, so it's a bit rich to blame that on Rachel Reeves.

JustMyView13 · 19/02/2025 16:23

They specifically state they’ve been struggling for a few years.
She’s only been chancellor a few months. I don’t think you’re gonna be able to make this one stick ‘unfortunately’.

I guess they should’ve branched out in Covid to PPE. I heard there was decent money in that.

BallerinaRadio · 19/02/2025 16:28

It looks like they employed less than 20 people. They were hardly propping up the economy were they

Tissuetina · 19/02/2025 16:31

I think a lot of businesses who have been struggling for a while are jumping on the NIC increase as a reason for closing / making staff redundant when the real reason is that their business plans weren’t great in the first place.

chakrakkhan · 19/02/2025 16:31

Yea! Nothing to do with the ridiculous cost of their ugly rucksacks at all is it.

How was 2020 compared to 2021? Can you link.

PickAChew · 19/02/2025 16:46

Never heard of them. I have no objection to splashing good money on good kit, even more so if it's British made but they never made it onto my radar.

This. Over priced rucksacks. Any company selling products for this sort of price tag where the products are comparable to £30 items simply won't last.

It’s the straw that broke the camel’s back they say.
To say Rachel is not responsible for part of this mess is questionable.

OK thanks - unfortunately doesn't tell us much other than Covid had an impact.

This is the plan I think...
Social media on overdrive as well as MSM especially the BBC.

The government is getting the blame for Tory policy too such as the farm subsidy cut (ultimately a Brexit policy).

Government spending and borrowing is supposed to be under Reeves’ control, the latter of which is likely to exacerbate inflation and mortgage interest rates. Higher debt interest payments, based on larger borrowing, means a greater percentage of tax revenue is used to service the debt, which generally means higher bonds yields which rise in return for the risk of lending, in turn financial markets get nervous about repayments and consequently interest rates rise for everyone across all retail banking products, like mortgages.

Mercurial123 · 20/02/2025 08:31

Grasping at straws OP, and you are ridiculous.

When you have a country whose public services and infrastructure have been allowed to rot by the previous incumbents, it's going to cost to fix it.

Er - well of course it did! But that company gained as well as lost. It's wrong to say that they just lost. Their assets grew post Covid just did their liabilities so they profited as well as lost.
