The weight gain seems to have appeared with not much difference to my regular diet. It doesn't shift like it used to. Trousers feel tight and I have developed some rolls around my stomach.

The usual tricks I use to lose weight are not working. I would get rid of any weight gain with intermittent fasting but it is not working this time. I walk at least 10k steps a day and do weight training 4 times a week.

I feel like I am fighting with my hormones which do not want me to lose weight.

Why the assumption that it should be lost ?

same with baby weight , let’s challenge the assumption that it should be lost and that everyone should

fine if you want to / need to but let’s be careful
with our language

I have felt uncomfortable with the weight gain. Clothes do not fit the same. It is uncomfortable around my middle area. Yes I could leave but don't feel good.

Honestly protein shakes are super easy. I do one with added banana and porridge oats.

Who can be bothered with that? And, frankly - yuck. Just cook a couple of eggs. With grilled bacon if you need it.

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 18/02/2025 21:04

Mounjaro was the only thing for me

TaylorSwish · 18/02/2025 21:07

I walk to my physically demanding job. I go to the gym. I don’t eat much. I still haven’t lost weight.
So I give up!

@TheNeighboursComplainAboutTheNoisesAbove

About a year to lose a stone and a half - but I've only been doing it sort of 80/20 - so most of the time but not all the time! I could have done it quicker...I've got a party in the summer with lots of people I've not seen in a while and that is inspiring me to pay a bit more attention to it.

Dinner tends to be:

Salmon stirfry - lots of veg, home made sauce and brown rice.
Chicken skewers with home made coleslaw (oil and lime dressing and herbs), small jacket potato, some more veg.
SMoked haddock and small amount of mash with lots of green veg.
Prawn Curry with lots of veg, home made coleslaw, dahl, and a small portion of brown rice.
Fish finger tacos - with cabbage, red pepper, salsa, salad on the side.

They sound delicious and perfect dinners! Wondering what your breakfasts and lunches are, and if you snack between meals.

This is the conclusion I've come to too. I maintain on around 1,000 calories a day. I need to cut down to 800 or less for at least 3 weeks to lose even 2lb.

Thank goodness its not just me ! It does seem to be as low as this for me too really. It's so depressing !

Nosebooper · 18/02/2025 21:18

Laiste · 18/02/2025 20:25

In all seriousness (after my living on air comment) same as pp i have to keep at about 800c to lose. And even then it's slow. And i do need to keep my weight down.
I have a small 'frame' (average height), and my joints struggle when i'm over weight - i can feel it straight away in my knees when i lose a couple of pounds.

With my daily low calorie intake i worry about muscle wasting! So i have taken up doing some arm weight training and i do daily yoga. It's a bit miserable and boring keeping so low on calories though. Especially when you have to stick to a reasonable budget too.

I've trained myself to eat more or less the same cheap things every day during the day and then when i cook for the family in the evening that's where the variation is.

My joints are terrible too. I'd be very interested to know what you eat on a typical day. It's difficult to stick to so few calories isn't it?

overnight oats. Frozen berries in the bottom of the bowl. Some porridge oats, then a load of fat free Greek yoghurt on top. Leave overnight and stir when you get up in the morning. I have it every day

Thank you. Does it have to be fat-free? Would low fat still be low cal?

I hate the smell of eggs 😂

PrincessofWells · 18/02/2025 17:21

I hate to say it, but my experience is the appetite doesn't reduce, you just get used to being more disciplined in what you eat and the amount 😟

I think appetite does decrease for some people. Me included, luckily. If someone can figure out why it doesn't for others, that would be useful. I don't think weight loss injections are the answer.

HelenHywater · 18/02/2025 21:25

I've lost a fair amount on the Human Being Diet - which is basically low cal, low carb, higher protein and no snacking. But also no sugar and no foods that cause IBS so I do feel quite a lot better on it. It seems to be aimed at (peri)menopausal women. Until I went , I had gained around 4-5kg and couldn't lose it no matter what I did.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/02/2025 21:28

Nosebooper · 18/02/2025 18:41

Following with interest. I'm on HRT but still gained weight despite eating the same amount.

Can anyone suggest a protein heavy breakfast that doesn't require much preparation in the morning?

I'm 2 and a half stone overweight, with too much on my tummy, definitely need to do something about it.

If you've gained weight despite eating the same amount, have you tried just simply eating less?

Stoneandtile · 18/02/2025 21:28

Macros and weight training. Having plonked on a stone around my middle which would not shift, I followed both and shifted the stone in 4 months.

Because eating more calories than your body requires isn't healthy. Your knees won't thankyou if you have excess weight to carry around. Neither will your heart. You're at risk of developing diabetes if your diet is all over the place.

I don't do any "fat free" stuff. Minimal processed shit. I just have less of the proper stuff. Be careful with the berries. Can be lots of sugar in those.

Doodleflips · 18/02/2025 21:44

I’ve been doing 16:8 so I eat between 10 and 6, and I’ve lost a stone, but I think I’m going to need to give up sugar as well, because the weight loss has slowed down

Sorry, I meant as I became peri menopausal and then menopausal I found eating the same amount as before caused me to gain weight.

I have tried eating less, but I'm always so hungry, it's miserable. I've tried low carbon, but became horribly constipated and felt my breath smelt.

That's interesting to me, because I so agree that eating the same amount as before definitely causes me to gain weight. However, so far I haven't been hungry eating less. I wonder why that is?

GreyCarpet · 18/02/2025 21:57

I low carb.

I've never had a sweet tooth anyway so giving up sugar was easy. Lots of salad and veg with salmon, chicken, pork belly... mmm... coffee with double cream (I used to drink tea endlessly and I've gone right off it). I've also lost taste for alcohol. One glass of wine and I don't want anymore. No beer which is a shame because it's my drink of choice. But I also seem to have gone off that too so...

A few berries and double cream is enough sweetness now. And I have a well stocked cheese shelf. Wasn't ever really bothered about chocolates and biscuits and I can't remember the last time I fancied a slice.of cake. Not having a sweet tooth definitely helps!

My biggest problem is eating enough now because I don't have much of an appetite anymore.

herbetta · 18/02/2025 22:37

HRT.

Good quality diet (70% wholefoods etc / 30% treats etc). Lots of protein. We don't need the massive portions we think we do. My TDEE is 1600 cals max.

Lots of exercise. Lots of weights. Plus cardio / HIT / abs / swim. Or a 2.5 hour walk. Most Days. I struggle to gain weight.

Gingerwarthog · 18/02/2025 22:48

HRT works for me.
Used to just run a lot but have added in weight training, circuits and swimming (plus dog walking).
I try to cook from scratch - lots of veg - and have increased protein. Gave up alcohol for dry January and have not gone back to it. Don't eat puddings but I do eat (dark) chocolate and chocolate covered fruit. Limit bread and carbs.
Same weight as I was at 40 - now 50 plus

  • but eat way less.
rosyvalentine · 18/02/2025 23:32

I agree, low carb can be wonderful, but how do you avoid constipation and do you suffer with bad breath because of keto?

Ok. Takes literally 30 secs in a blender!
Fair enough if you don't like it but you can get 25g protein that way which is more than bacon and 2 eggs
