To take more adults than kids to a 'movie for juniors'?

Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:28

Today I booked tickets to cineworld to see Paddington as a 'movie for juniors'. It will be myself, my dh, our 18yr old and our 11 yr old. So I paid for 3 x adult tickets and 1 x child ticket. All priced at £2.50 each.

I have since had an email from cineworld reminding us it's a movie for juniors showing and that every adult should be accompanying a child. It doesn't say that we can't go but the wording is a bit confusing. Surely there's regularly going to be two parents taking just one child etc. We technically are all being accompanied by a child, just not a child each!

Aibu to go with 3 adults and one child? Or should I cancel?

I would just go. The T&C's (and the email by the sound of it) don't state that it has to be a 1:1 ratio.

Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:39

This is the wording on the email...

Please be aware that all customers aged 16 or over must be accompanying a child to this screening. Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

As you say @Ablondiebutagoody it doesn't state 1:1.

We are all accompanying a child and we're sitting together. Just hope we don't have a wasted journey.

The email says just that, if op has quoted it correctly?
It's a bit of a cheek for a group of adults to go to a cheap cinema showing which is specifically reduced for children.

KerryBlues · 17/02/2025 21:40

Every adult accompanying a child literally mean one to one.

Literally says a child under 14 must have an adult AND that an adult cannot attend without a child.

Hercisback1 · 17/02/2025 21:42

Is it their generic email after booking? It's to stop groups of adults surely?

LoveBluey · 17/02/2025 21:42

No it just means an adult cannot go alone without a child in their group booking.

I'm sure there will be plenty of 1 child families where both mum and dad want to take them to the cinema. They can't surely be suggesting you can only go if you have more than one child. And what if you have 3 children do you then have to find another adult to maintain the 1:1 ratio. Nonsense.

It doesn't. It's vague. One to one would mean one to one.

Yep. OP's situation fits both of those criteria

Bobbybobbins · 17/02/2025 21:46

I think you are fine. Surely it's to stop all the tickets being booked by adults with no child at all with them, as the tickets are cheaper at this showing.

Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:46

@LoveBluey that's what I'm hoping. That it means a child has to be in the group booking, not literally a 1:1 ratio.

It's only to see the Paddington film that's been out since November, it's not like it's a brand new film. There was plenty of availability in the seating plan so we're not stopping others going.

I haven't booked a m4j for years so I don't know if this is a standard email or they sent it as a response to having 3:1 ratio.

I think it means an adult cannot go without a child. Like how they won't let you in to Chuck E. Cheese if you don't have a kid with you, but two adults can come in with one kid.

Last time I went to one of these screenings (a few years ago) only one adult per child got the £2.50 seat price. The other adults were charged the standard rate.

ChipsnGraveee · 17/02/2025 21:50

I’ve been before to a M4J showing just me and 2 kids, so it’s not 1:1.
It just means you need to have ‘a’ child with you, not just a bunch of adults going to a kids showing on their own.

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 17/02/2025 21:50

It's a generic email. I have received the same one today. I booked for 3 kids and two adults.

Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:51

I'm glad the majority are thinking the same as me! It is quite a vague statement but I think it just means a child within a group booking.

Thanks everyone :)

This comes up when you book. So I'm guessing the 18 yr old is a no as not a child, parent guardian

Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:54

@RoundSquareWithTriangles Thank you!!

I think they class a 16yr old as an adult so that's murky waters as they're technically still a child. It's a minefield!!

OP posts:
Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:56

@Hankunamatata

When I selected the number of seats, including 3 adults, at no point did anything pop up to say add another child.

OP posts:
BlondiePortz · 17/02/2025 21:58

If it is specific child screening then there would be restrictions which is different from adults just wanting to see a film that happens to be aimed at children?

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 17/02/2025 21:58

You're welcome. Enjoy Paddington! We're seeing The Wild Robot.

Puppupandaway · 17/02/2025 21:59

@RoundSquareWithTriangles I'm jealous!! We didn't have that film as an option, but I'm sure Paddington will be fun too. Enjoy your film :)
