Really stupid holiday question

I’m asking a really stupid question but I’ve asked a few people IRL and not had helpful answers.

I’m taking my boys abroad for the first time this year - Spain / Balearic Islands most likely. Probably in June.

Stupid Question: Are the pools warm at that time of year? I’ve not been to Europe much and when I did years ago it was April, Portugal, and the pool was absolutely massive so like an iceberg.

We’re looking an at AI place - Holiday Village or similar. The pools won’t be freezing will they?

I feel like an idiot asking but my boys both have additional needs and a cold pool will be a nightmare as they would find that tricky.

I find any pools in Europe too cold if they aren’t heated.

I have an unheated pool in southern Spain. It would be plenty warm enough in June. In July it would be a lovely 28 degrees in there!

Check reviews and ask on TripAdvisor. Been to a few places where the sea was warmer as was full sun whereas the hotel pool was freezing due to it only having a couple of hours in the sun as tall hotels all around casting shade.

Most places won't be heated and will be freezing despite warm weather. These places need 30 degrees plus for months to heat up. Some kids are fine with this, some aren't and I specifically search for places with heated pools as a result - it's harder to find but you can search similar threads with people asking for this, and check the reviews on trip advisor for the word "heated" and check its not just heated in low season. I've been to lovely outdoor heated places now in UK, Turkey, Canary Islands, France etc - what's your budget / ideal location?

Also I took a proper wetsuit for DC for the non heated splash park. That was shallow so felt fine to me although not warm, but SEN can be particularly sensitive.

If they're heated, yes! Not heated - they'll be freezing.

I used a pool in the Caribbean last week and it wasn't heated - 30 degrees outside but cold pools!

You guys are amazing! Thank you. X

I’d be heading to Caribbean if I felt the boys would cope with the flight!! My dream destination 🥰

The pools will be cold. We are going in July this year so that although the air temperature might be too warm for my little ones we can hopefully balance it by being in and out of the pool all day.

I'd look for somewhere with an indoor pool as well as that should be ok (although still tend to be on a the cooler side).

In June, the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza) typically have warm weather, with average daytime temperatures around 25–30°C (77–86°F). However, pool temperatures can vary depending on size, depth, and whether they are heated.

stanleypops66 · 17/02/2025 20:49

Been to holiday villages the first week in June and both times the water was chilly but ok after a few minutes.

OldGothsFadeToGrey · 17/02/2025 20:55

We go to the Balearics mid June for 2 weeks every year. Villas with unheated pools. Pools are a lovely temperature. That time of year it rains occasionally and the temperature dips to 22/23/24. If that happens the pool is a bit cool for my small children, but it’s usually fine again the next day. Average heat was 26/27 when we are there and in that the pool is comfortable enough for us all. I feel the cold very easily. The sea is normally a couple of degrees warmer than pool temperature.
