'Wedmin' is one of the worst 'words' ever invented

My best friend just used the word 'wedmin' and it made me die a bit inside. And if I'm honest think a little bit less of her.

AIBU?

Please tell me how I can shut this stupid phrase down without wounding her pride!

OonaStubbs · 16/02/2025 22:40

What does it mean? Wedding admin?

sweetpickle2 · 16/02/2025 22:41

Why would you need to shut it down? Just smile and nod.

cherish123 · 16/02/2025 22:41

Never heard of it.

YoungGunsHavingSomeFunCrazyLadiesKeepEmOnTheRun · 16/02/2025 22:43

That's quite funny actually. I would have been trying not to laugh.

I heard someone a few months back saying her boyfriend borrowed her jacket because it looks 'gendy neuch' I have thought about it every day since 🤣

BMW6 · 16/02/2025 22:46

Sorry but I've no idea what it refers to

OhSpringisintheair · 16/02/2025 22:51

Oh that is just so depressing and cringeworthy.
A lot of people seem to be on a mission to murder the English language.

Nopenott0day · 16/02/2025 22:54

It's from the sitcom Miranda. Used by the character Tilly who's supposed to be an insufferable 'posho'.

Cringeworthy wasn’t a word till the late 70s. Language evolves all the time- it’s not “murdering” the English language.

Sinkintotheswamp · 16/02/2025 23:00

I'd never heard of it until now but guessed exactly what it meant.
I like it.

We should end more words in 'min'. Babymin, kidmin, unimin, carmin, splitmin, deadmin.....

Serpenting · 16/02/2025 23:09

Yes, insert a new ‘min coinage into every sentence when you’re in her company. Excuse yourself to go to the bathroom for your ‘loomin’. Book an appointment to sort out your ‘hairmin’. Refer to meal planning as ‘dinnermin’.

Any normal person will want to headbut you in fifteen minutes.

Well yes cringeworthy isn't a very edifying word I admit.

And I'm aware that a language that doesn't evolve becomes a dead language.

I think I object to words like wedmin because they are evocative of life styles I can't even begin to want to embrace.

Surely there’s loads of words evocative of life styles you don’t want to embrace? It doesn’t make them not words.

I know. People are more precious and self absorbed these days than ever before.

Namechangedforthis25 · 16/02/2025 23:32

It’s quite a commonly used phase for wedding admin where I am

really not a big deal

weddings can involve a lot of admin

Glorybox2025 · 16/02/2025 23:32

Anyone using the word wedmin seriously is playing precisely into the stereotype from the comedy show it came from.

zerogrey · 16/02/2025 23:35

Bear with bear with queen Kong!

BellissimoGecko · 16/02/2025 23:41

Wedmin is hilarious. Love Miranda!

If your friend is using it seriously, you could have some fun with it... but there is a lot of admin involved with weddings!!

There's nothing wrong with playing with the English language. It evolves all the time, and thank goodness it does. That's what keeps it interesting. I love all the new words and usages, especially used by my teens. That's what happens every generation: teens add their new words, enriching the language.

Lessexpected · 16/02/2025 23:46

Just did the ‘sadmin’ to do with closing up a person’s life. I think it does the job well to explain how it’s a full-time job during those life-changing moments.

Got a pout on @Lessexpected cos we thought we'd invented sadmin. I think it's the perfect word for the absolute shit-show of form filling and nonsense.

And sorry for your loss.

AffIt · 17/02/2025 01:44

Ah, jayzus, I'm all over this.

Catmin when I'm taking the furry housemates to the vets. Carmin for the MOT. Bandmin for organising rehearsals. Shoemin for going to the cobbler. Garmin for getting the grass cut, although I fear this may have been taken already.

@Lessexpected, I'm sorry for your loss, but having gone through the tribulations of death multiple times, 'sadmin' sums it up brilliantly and I applaud your neologism.

Lean in, OP! Language evolves!

TheIvyRestaurant · 17/02/2025 02:34

Im afraid I’d have been a good friend - laughed and told her for her own sake never to use that term again

CheekyHobson · 17/02/2025 02:36

lol I think it’s rather funny and effective, but as a professional writer and editor, I wholly embrace linguistic experimentation, play and change.

Gowlett · 17/02/2025 02:37

I used to work with a girl who would show me her wedmin spreadsheet every time I entered her office. The level of detail…
