To think Vinted is the new Wild West for buying and selling

New to Vinted.
Brought 2 items a scarf and a jumper.

The scarf arrived stiff as a board, didn't resemble the scarf in the photo and had lots of snagging.

The jumper, listed as being worn once, was covered in bobbles, very well used and I wouldn't have even donated to a charity shop.

Sold 3 items, first one buyer opened a case against me when not received the day after posting.

Second item, brand new with tags, buyer left a message to say not happy with sizing.

Third item, brand new with tags, buyer questioned if I had pets because they could see a hair on the jumper in the photo (it was a miniscule fleck which didn't resemble pet hair in any way shape or form).

Can't say my Vinted experience has been great so far, however, others seem to like it, I am hoping I have just got off to a bad start.

It’s a giant fence for stolen and illegal counterfeits.

I love it so much I struggle to buy new! Something will go into the shops as new season and be on vinted within a couple of months, the idea of spending £30 on a top i know will be on Vinted for £8 within weeks is now unthinkable to me. I have had a couple of rubbish experiences though, including someone who tried to claim i missold them an item because they were too tall for it....wish I was making that up!

SillyBilly1993 · 16/02/2025 22:20

I think you’ve been unlucky, I’ve bought and sold a lot on Vinted and never had a bad experience. I find it hard to buy things new in shops now because it seems over priced in comparison. It also gets very addictive!

As others have said, it works best when you are buying and selling cheaper items.

Hopefully if you carry on you’ll have better luck!

HowDidItEnd · 16/02/2025 22:26

Brought some boots. Looked okay on arrival and marked as okay. Wore them 3 days later and the sole completely fell off. They had been glued on and looked okay but didn’t stand up to being worn. Contacted Vinted but you only have two days to report an issue and they say they can’t do anything. Seller just ignored me. Buyer protection is a fee but offers no actual protection.

Only buy on Vinted if you are happy to gamble you’ll have to put the item in the bin and are okay to lose the money.

BigButtons · 17/02/2025 05:24

Vinted is definitely on the seller’s side. The fact that they only give you 48 hours to raise an issue is ridiculous.
I only buy cheap stuff on there in case it turns out to be a dud.
mostly stuff is ok. I don’t sell though.

Flexilexy · 17/02/2025 07:23

I’ve sold approx 100 things in Vinted. Not a single issue with any sale, other than one woman who didn’t bother to collect the parcel so waited ages before it made its way back to me. That pissed me off but not really a massive problem.

I buy loads of stuff for child on there and only had a handful of issues. A couple of times where the wrong items were sent. One was super easy to sort, the other was a faff but I got my money back once I raised a complaint.

I know people do get dicked around on Vinted but my experience has been great on the whole. You’ve been unlucky but it’s a risk you take using a platform like this.

I've found it more hit that miss. I bought a next "leather"jacket new with tags. When arrived the collar "leather" was peeling away I know it was leather look not genuine but must have been badly stored,

Bigger purchase was a special dress for my daughter almost like a prom dress was £17 and absolutely stunning everyone was commenting on it

I've got some holiday bits all worked out well, and this weekend have ordered over £40 on midi dresses for a upcoming city break so fingers crossed!!

bugalugs45 · 17/02/2025 08:14

Over 300 transactions here , sent 1 item back ( had to pay postage ) and had one buyer send 1 item back to me as had a hole under arm ( will never know if was my mistake or they done it /swapped upon receipt ) but either way pretty good odds .
I've also received 1 negative feedback review as something was slightly damaged in transit , I refused refund unless she sent back , she wanted a discount , which I refused.
But 1/300 is pretty good odds and I'm still 5 🌟 overall .
I don't sell anything more than about £30 and though and nothing designer

When they state’ only worn once’ . I always ask worn once by YOU because it is second hand and th wore it once or worn once from new with you as the original buyer?

Edited

I am seeing more and more items marked ‘new without tags’ which then say ‘hardly worn’.
If you’ve used it, it’s not new without tags!

Mind you I’ve bought a couple of items marked ‘very good’ which have clearly never been worn so it’s balanced out.

discdiscsnap · 17/02/2025 08:39

I've had a couple of items not as described. A dress with a burn mark! Unfortunately I didn't spot it until after I'd clicked all ok (lesson learnt)
And a very worn coat in 'very good' category described as 'worn a couple of time'

But for the most part I've found it great , I don't but expensive things though. Clothes under £10 usually. No issues selling either.

Mydadsbirthday · 17/02/2025 09:36

I have over 100 5 star reviews and haven't had any problems at all. The only time was my fault - sold a pair of my DS trainers and he'd given me the description and photos and I'd just posted them. They were falling apart and the buyer obviously complained, totally fair and I haven't let my DS give me his stuff to sell since!
I haven't bought anything valuable only a few kids items and some books. Pretty much 100% of people have been lovely.
I've had one person who didn't collect so it got returned to me. One out of 100+ sales.
Don't accept offers from people with no reviews.

Amaranthasweetandfair · 17/02/2025 10:20

I agree with the poster who said don't sell expensive items. I have had a lot of success selling items under £40 but just removed a pair of boots I was selling for £120. Got lots of messages asking about sizing etc which is fine as it's a big purchase, but some turned rude when I didn't reply on the same day (and really, I can't guarantee whether they're going to fit or not, I can only say what size they are!) I just decided it was more hassle than it was worth.

User543211 · 17/02/2025 10:29

OP, did you click the ' I have an issue' button and get a refund?
I've made over £500 selling clothes for a few quid per item, and I've saved an absolute fortune buy kids clothes on there. Only ever buy from sellers with lots of good reviews and always make a note of the condition listed, as that's your leg to stand on if something arrives not up to standard. If it isn't, I always raise an issue. If dodgy sellers never get pulled up they're going to keep doing it so we all should! I've only had to do it a handful of times though.
I also don't understand how your buyer raised an issue one working day later.... I don't see how it's possible?

telephonelady · 17/02/2025 11:13

I've bought loads of stuff on Vinted and only had a few bad experiences. One item I ended up sending back but the others got donated and chalked up to experience.
I only buy from sellers with lots of 4.5 or 5 star reviews. I've had some amazing bargains as have my kids. I struggle to justify buying from shops now as you can find most stuff on Vinted.

I don't sell on there yet as im disorganised and worry I'd not meet the postage deadline. We have a really good local FB selling site where people come and collect from your house, that suits me much better!

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 17/02/2025 11:16

I’ve been pretty lucky with Vinted. I’ve bought a lot (not ventured into selling yet) but no major issues and the minor ones were quickly resolved
