To wonder how people cook on small 60cm induction hobs- the area for pans looks tiny

Would like to switch but seriously the size of zones on a small 60cm hob looks tiny and puts me off. How are people cooking with more than 2 pans or with a frying pan? Is it a bit of emperor’s new clothes or is there some genius that I’m not seeing?

how big are your pans that if the hob is 50cm deep and 60cm wide you can't fit as least 4 pans?

crumblingschools · 15/02/2025 14:56

60cm is standard isn't it?

wherearemypastnames · 15/02/2025 14:57

Ours is less than 60cm

It can have 4 pans including a full size frying pan all at the same time

It's also the same width as mams gas hob

I don’t have this at home but have used one in a caravan totally fine.

NannyR · 15/02/2025 14:59

Is that a standard four ring hob? If so, I have one and it fits normal sized pans fine. You might struggle to get four catering sized pans or four large frying pans on at once but for normal cooking purposes, it's fine.

But the zones are a lot smaller than a quarter of the area and don’t the pans have to be over the heating area to heat up( admittedly I know nothing). A big frying pan would have a lot of space not over a zone

We have four zones of different sizes

I think the edges of the biggest frying pan are outside the heat zone - so those edges are much less hot which is useful - sausages in the middle and tomatoes on the edge

And it seems to work

Yes I guess colder areas of a frying pan could be useful hadn’t thought of that.

Are you talking about a normal sized hob?

Ours isnt induction but we have 4 gas hobs on an oven which is only 55cm wide. Perfectly ok.

crumblingschools · 15/02/2025 17:01

We have a Bosch one that has combi zone, which means you can link two zones together if you have an extra large pan. We have never used that function though.

Metal conducts heat.

Therefore, the whole pan doesn't have to be over the flame to get hot. You should see the size of the stove we use when camping, and I've knocked
