Can anxiety make you retch

I've suffered from anxiety before. But I conquered it sort of. Lately I've noticed I get spells where my mood falls through the floor and I get so down, tense and anxious. It could be the start or peri or linked to my cycle, I don't know. But on top of it I keep retching, it's so odd. I'm never sick and I don't feel particularly nauseas either.

Yes, it absolutely can. My DH does this with extreme anxiety and my DD has vomited due to panic. Deep breaths. Hope things get easier for you.

yeah there's a kind of anxiety that makes you throw up at certain triggers

tarheelbaby · 14/02/2025 18:57

Definitely!
So sorry you're discovering the range of anxiety and it is definitely a thing in peri and meno (not sure why there is a distinction since it's all the same). I find keeping busy is a good antidote - rather like morning sickness if you had that: distraction will carry you through it.

Oh yes. If my anxiety is bad I fear brushing my teeth in case I get 'the boke'.

I don’t throw up but can taste sick in my mouth. I had panic attacks at my previous job due to rude and nasty customers

LBFseBrom · 14/02/2025 19:00

Yes it can.

This happened to me as I was brushing my teeth prior to going to the dentist this afternoon. I get really anxious about medical/dental appts.

Yes.
Best to get fully checked out if this is a new health issue that you haven’t had before but anxiety can be a potential cause.
