So I think I may be being unreasonable.
but
hill top hospital all about lots of animals.
generally not a bad prog.

however, suggesting that pigs give birth in a hospital with their legs in stirrups. and that elephants need c-sections because it may be a big baby.. Baby animals being bottle fed.. I am just not sure about it all.

I can't really put into words why I am uncomfortable with it.

I'm not sure but did you watch Come Dine with me last night? A vegan on there had a brill vegan poster which could easily double up as a pro bf poster. It was a man lying under a cow sucking it's udders. It said 'Cutting out the middle man do you still think it's natural.'

Ledodgy · 09/05/2008 09:58

and i'm bottle feeding ds2 now but still loved the poster.

Haha Fio I can tell you've been pondering that one for a while!

jingleyjen · 09/05/2008 09:59

not sure Fio,
I think the whole programme freaks me out in a way it wouldn't if they were humans rather than animals.

lololol that elephants need C sections
I know a woman who writes for children's tv (Fifi, Zoo Lane etc) and she says that the UK market is pretty lax about what is allowed.
US market much more controlled in terms of content.
I have never seen the programme but yes I think children's programmes should have some thought for the messages they gives out e.g. inclusiveness etc

Some baby animals are bottle fed though; any farmer or zookeeper would tell you that. Happens at lambing time every year, when a ewe dies or hasn't got enough milk or for some reason rejects a lamb. In the wild, they'd starve to death, of course- but our children don't need to know everything, do they

And caesarian sections are performed on animals to save the mother's life- ask a vet.

But seriously, I see that the programme may well be a bit odd. Never seen it, but sounds as if it might be a bit creepy.

But that might prove a good point of discussion with your dd or ds. I've always found these slightly odd programmes or books or whatever make great starting points- but then my dd is the sort who wanted to discuss and question everything from the age of 2.

Can't see what's so freaky about this. A hundred years ago, milking a little straight into your mouth or cup when you were out in the pasture all day would have seemed a perfectly natural thing to do.

All it tells me is how far we have got out of touch with the realities of food production in this artifical, technological age.

Ooh Cory come here

TinkerbellesMum · 09/05/2008 11:11

It reminds me of an advert that annoyed me for Barbie. Her dog Toffee has just had triplets and needs Barbie's help to look after them - cue the bottles!

How about Toffee has had triplets and can feed them herself because that's a really small litter for dogs?
