Mouse poop on clothes

We've been dealing with mice infestation for 2 months almost, we're moving out in 9 days.
Caught 11 mice in total from December 27 - current.

( we've spoke to landlord, not willing to help, also in a flat so pest control said no point unless every other flat would pay the fee )

Packing up the bedrooms and we've been washing all laundry on a 90 degree wash with laundry sanitiser.

However, have found a lot of mouse poop in the bedrooms, and I'm now wondering is this enough?

With moving, I really cannot afford to just throw all the clothes away, and it makes me feel physically sick I was touching these clothes without knowing there was poop on them.

( we was under the impression they couldn't of got into bedrooms )

Is 90 degree + sanitizer and tumble dryer enough to make sure clothes are clean?

Won’t 90 degrees ruin some clothes? It’s define for cotton, but most clothes are made of a mixture of fabrics

Doggymummar · 13/02/2025 14:11

You'll ruin your clothes washing them at that temperature. Just pick the poo off and wash at 40

Talkabtit101 · 13/02/2025 14:53

The 90 degree hasn't seemed to affect the clothing from what I can see.

Just wash them.
Mice can get anywhere in a house.

OneLemonGuide · 13/02/2025 14:57

You’re lucky none of the clothes have been ruined, but 90 degrees isn’t necessarily for a bit of mouse poop. 40 degrees on a full cycle should suffice, in the same way you presumably wouldn’t wash you hands with near-boiling water if you happened to touch mouse poo?

We regularly get mice in the house (rural) and it’s never entered my head to wash anything differently. I’m also a bit embarrassed by how many we catch over winter vs what you class as an ‘infestation’ - I really didn’t think we had it THAT bad 😱

😂 Yes same here!

There is no way of keeping them out when you have rubble stone walls and no foundations. I tend to lose count of how many we catch each winter.

I'm just glad that the dogs keep the rats out of the garden. The joys of rural living although I believe there are more rats in urban areas.

BRB just burning the house down 🥲

Yes! One of our dogs is a particularly enthusiastic ‘ratter’ so that’s one thing we don’t have to contend with.

Eek!! I think mice are incontinent and wee over everything.

They will get into anywhere so I would be washing all clothes on a hot wash as I pack up and then washing it all again once I’d moved.

Are you packing them into plastic boxes? I’d worry they’d get into cardboard boxes and come with me 😂

Magnastorm · 13/02/2025 15:56

It's just mice poo. What do you think is going to happen? It's just seeds and bits of insects, as that is what mice mainly eat.

Just wash them as you would normally.

Mixed views on that, either they are, or they just choose to wee everywhere for scent marking.

Having handled things covered in mouse wee it is noticeable to the touch that it's there and you can also smell it. Not pleasant, but not something that needs a 90 degree wash plus laundry sanitiser.

We're packing in cardboard boxes, they've all been taped by myself and will be thoroughly checked before going into the van.

I could totally be over reacting, which is why I asked here, there is a couple posts. I cannot wash both here and there, as we will not have the tumble dryer, and quite frankly would take too long with work and sorting the new house.

The clothes have been bagged in vac bags that have been washed.
