I don't think the CofE should have a choice in this. History would suggest they are completely untrustworthy to manage it themselves.

Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell reacts at the opening session of the Church of England General Synod,

Church of England rejects fully independent safeguarding

One abuse survivors advocate described the decision as a "punch in the gut" for victims.

The house of lords having a collection of
Bishops is crazy what do they get paid for and what have they ever contributed to society Have they helped the homeless or drug addicts Or have they just socialised with their own kind and dressed up in ridiculous ways and laughed along with people within their tight knit community The church of England is an expensive and pointless institution

Poor judgement is that a regular excuse my place above. and the safe guarding people in the church working hard Should be less fussing about and strong decisions made like vicars losing their jobs It's not that complicated and an emphasis on the victims

The C of E’s Trouble is that it serves all the groups abusers are attracted to - kids, refugees, people with severe mental illness, people with disabilities.

Christianity’s clients include crooks and addicts too - and here we have the first prob, which is that some vulnerable types are also lifelong predators by nature.

Problem 2, the very presence of a victim draws other abusers.

It’s not a problem once you accept that and spend some money fixing it.

Just cos some of your customers are normal churchgoers, doesn’t mean most aren’t. C of E has extra work and extra duties. As do other churches, who
are only people in this country who give a fuck about the marginalised.

In what universe is stopping children being raped ‘eye-wateringly complex’?
