Posting purely for traffic and urgent advice.

Honestly don’t know what to do here. Today I parked outside a local shop. Parking is always tight, not many spaces available. I did a perfect parallel parking manoeuvre and was getting out the car when a lady got out from in front of me and started accusing me of hitting her car. I absolutely did not!! I have a dash cam and parking sensors and can say with certainty I didn’t touch her car. She asked if we could swap details which we did even though I told her I did nothing wrong (so silly..I know!) I felt bad because she said her husband is an angry man and will blame her if he sees any scratches on the car. There weren’t any but I felt for her so gave her my details anyway. We took pictures of each others driving licenses.

I examined her car very closely (pics attached) the grey reflection is just my jumper. A few hours later she sends me a bill for £500 to repair the alleged damage that she accused me of causing.

I drove straight to the garage she went to and spoke to the manager. He said the car did not look like the pictures I took at 11:30am. She took her car in at 3pm. She was still in her parking space waiting for her husband an hour after I’d originally parked and decided to take my own photos for proof.

The very kind manager of the store reviewed the footage that confirmed no accident occurred. I also spoke to the contractors working across the street, one of them who happened to witness the whole altercation including my parking which he says was perfect and I did not touch her car. What do I do here?! Please my pictures compared to hers. You can see she took her picture on a completely different road.

My car is the silver Toyota and her is the black Mercedes. You can see from the pics I took at the time that there is NO DAMAGE.

Am I missing something here or is this a common scam?

Scam, inform your insurance

Pic I took at the time

I would go back to her and tell her you have evidence and witnesses to prove you did nothing wrong and did not hit her. You are happy to forward it all to the police and your insurance and let them sort it out

as an aside i would report it via 101 anyway, do it online, she’s a scam artist ,

justmyluck1234 · 11/02/2025 18:26

Not heard of this before but defo seems like a scam m. As pp says inform your insurance seems like you have all the proof you would need.

Springflowersmakeforbetterhours · 11/02/2025 18:27

What a scammer! Report her to the police.... Before the cctv is deleted...

takealettermsjones · 11/02/2025 18:27

Yep call the police, you've got her name and address (unless the licence is fake of course), let them look into it.

Springflowersmakeforbetterhours · 11/02/2025 18:28

And do not engage in any conversations with her whatsoever.

Is it advisable to exchange details when it 'happened'? If you are sure there was no contact and she cannot show you any damage to her car.

Genuine question.

Scammer report to the Police and your Insurance. Witness details sent to police and insurance and dash cam footage. All photos to. Ignore her.

Not advisable at all. Very silly of me to do. To be completely honest I asked chatGPT and it said exchange details even if there is no damage just in case. I’m scared this “angry husband” is going to show up at my door now. I feel really uneasy about the whole thing and so stupid for giving her my details.

Just did what I was advised. In hindsight it was a silly mistake.

Sorry, MN won’t let me post the image. I’ll copy and paste from chatGPT:

Pressure tactics:

They may try to pressure you to settle on the spot with cash to avoid a police report.

What to do:

Gather evidence: Take photos of the damage, exchange details with the other driver, and try to get witness statements.

Report to police: If you suspect a scam, report the incident to the police and the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB).
