To be worried about this

We nipped into a supermarket to buy a couple of bits for dinner. The sales assistant was seriously rude to us at the self checkout, rolled her eyes and was generally just unpleasant. I didn’t say anything but was going to talk to DH about it in the car. Her attitude was really bad, but I also know from experience of my first retail job that it can be really wearing and she could’ve had anything going on in her personal life. After she had approved something on the checkout and turned her back, DH said to me - how f-ing rude can you be, honestly, that takes the p.’ This is not like DH but he hasn’t had the best of weeks either. I’m not sure if she heard or not. It was quite busy but she was standing nearby.

DH was wearing a jacket with his company logo on. I am anxious she will complain to his work and that he would get in trouble. I will caveat I have anxiety that I am receiving support for but this has set me off today.

AIBU to worry?

I wouldn’t worry, she’s unlikely to report him. Shop workers come across rude people every day. She’s probably worried that you’ll report her!

That is true

What did she do that was rude? She approved your self service purchase and then your husband turned to say how rude?

Chuchoter · 11/02/2025 12:07

'she could’ve had anything going on in her personal life.'

Many people in public facing roles today have something going on in their personal life but they behave professionally.

Stop making excuses for people who are unpleasant.

I don't think you need worry about her reporting him to his place of work as it's her word against his and she would just look petty.

Came over, slammed down ID fob and said ‘can you just move your basket now it’s nearly empty’ I said there’s only a few things left to scan and she repeated but I’ve said to move it. I said, I will in just a moment. Rolled eyes, sighed, looked up and down.

Report her to management. She clearly has no customer service and is in the wrong job.

mumto2teenagers · 11/02/2025 12:11

I wouldn't worry that she will report your DH.

Personally I would just forget about it.

Why is everyone so obsessed with reporting each other.

OP- get on with your life, I'm sure the shop worker will too.

FallOfTheHouseOfUtterlyButterly · 11/02/2025 13:05

She will barely have taken in who he was. And even if she did and decided to be petty and report him to his company, nothing will happen

On a side note: people are harsh on MN. Don't report her. Customer service people are allowed to have a bad day too. Ye, it's not great to be rude to customers but it happens. As long as it's not an occurrence with her every time you go in the shop

toomuchfaff · 11/02/2025 13:12

Do people really worry about this shit?

Let you husband worry if his behaviour will result in someone complaining about him due to his actions while he impasse identifiable works clothing on.

LET HIM....

It's his actions. You have no control over the actions of others. Stop worrying about things you have no control over.

HereNext · 11/02/2025 13:15

I would have forgotten this by the time I got back to the car.

Worried1974 · 11/02/2025 13:19

I can't believe the amount of posters on here that are sooooooo offended because the other person rolled their eyes. FFS just stop being offended by everything!

ItGhoul · 11/02/2025 13:56

Nothing's going to happen. Your worry is completely irrational. But I think you probably know that, if you're being treated for anxiety.

I would have told her to her face how rude she was.

TheWonderhorse · 11/02/2025 14:16

I would have laughed, but I find people like that amusing. Imagine going around being shitty to strangers? I might have asked if she was alright if she looked upset rather than livid.

Don't worry OP, and don't let a grumpy bugger ruin your day. I promise you, she's forgotten all about it.
