Can you ovulate twice in one month?

Not really an AIBU, but posting for traffic.

I have heard that ovulation can only happen once per cycle.
Can you get a pre ovulation happen afew days before? I have been tracking my cycle. Every month like clockwork, I'm getting cramps on cd9/10, and getting a faint positive ovulation test. I then get cramps again anywhere from dc14-cd18, and get a dark positive ovulation test. My cramps are strong, almost like period cramps.
What's going on with my body? I get a regular period that starts anywhere from cd25-cd28

Yes you can have positive tests but not ovulate and it's very common with pcos hence ovulation tests aren't really reliable for those with pcos. I would sometimes get several positives a month and only knew if I ovulated by taking bbt.

You can ovulate with 2 eggs (hence fraternal twins) but I don't know about the time lag.

Thanks, I am currently undergoing gyno investigations due to cervical etropian which has been biopsied, with it looking a bit odd. This is why I'm thinking is this caused by hormones? The cramps feel like period cramps and really hurt when I'm getting the positive ovulation tests. I don't know if it is all connected. They did a pelvic abdominal ultrasound sound scan which came back normal, so I don't think I have PCOS. They haven't yet ruled out endometriosis.

Yes, that's it. In my case there is a bit of a time lag.

Yes of course...that's how I got pregnant with twins!

Clomid100 · 10/02/2025 11:08

Yea you can.

I am currently going through fertility treatment and on clomid alongside ultrasounds. I got my first ultrasound on CD 12 of which they found a follicle (just a little smaller size they looking for). Had another ultrasound CD16 and it had disappeared completely with free fluid around my ovary so they think I ovulated around CD14-15) Went back again CD19 as blood tests showed my ovaries were 'doing something' (not sure what they meant by that!) and they have seen a much larger follicle in a healthier shape. So they think I'm due to ovulate twice this month. I've to go back tomorrow to find out if I've successfully ovulated the second.

There isn't a history of twins in my family. There are over 7 days in between my positive ovulation tests, the second one later in my cycle is darker, although the cramps are the same both times.

Thank you @Clomid100 there can be over 7 days between mine, and the second one is stronger. Could it possibly be the body trying to ovulate the first time, maybe failing then trying again a few days later and succeeding?

If you're trying for a baby, I am sending lots of baby dust your way. I have my DCs. I am in my late 30s, so definitely no more for me. I just want it to stop. The pains are like period pains twice every month on top of my actual period.
