Brita Alternatives

Getting fed up with the ever increasing cost of Brita Filters - has anyone switched to an alternative that they are happy with?

I've been looking at something called aquaphor, cartridges are cheaper and claim is that they filter twice the volume - can anyone recommend them, or other alternatives?
Really hard water, so if I don't use a filter tea is foul and I spend a fortune on descaler.

YABU - if you buy in big enough quantities when they're on offer, it's not that much

YANBU - time to stop shelling out and try an alternative

If you truly want to effectively filter tap water you need a reverse osmosis system

I’m in a hard water area OP, I’ve got the Asda jug and their filters. Excellent, and so much cheaper than Brita.

I buy these off Amazon for my Brita water filter and they fit fine. First time the little green adapter takes a bit of umph to get it in but never had a problem changing the filters after that, the green thing just stays in. So much cheaper! I have got of the smaller jugs, not the big massive one.

I switched to the Asda ones last year as they are so, so much cheaper. I genuinely haven't noticed a difference - really impressed.

Thanks everyone, that's helpful.
I'm not usually brand loyal, so not sure why I've stuck to brita ones for so long.
I've not got space to fit a permanent filter.
I came across phox when I was looking yesterday, and emailed them directly because their website wasn't very clear on costs.
I don't have a convenient asda, although I wouldn't need to go that often, but will try the amazon ones suggested above - or cost out phox when I hear back.
