To feel a bit annoyed about this

AIBU to feel a bit miffed when someone declines making plans tonight as they say they have work in the morning, then afterwards drop in that they already may have plans to go out for drinks tonight? Why not just leave the work part out and say you have other plans made

2 people have voted unreasonable, I would be interested to hear their thoughts on why they think that

Perhaps they thought it would be easier to lie.

Brefugee · 08/02/2025 13:32

Because it's none of your business really.

YABU

You are not entitled to anyone's time, no matter who it is, and they dont have to justify or excuse what they are doing.

The fact they said "work tomorrow", and then seemingly slipped up later that they already had plans, tells me they think it's easier to lie to you and that you're more likely to accept the "work tomorrow" excuse and leave it there vs them telling you the truth and you wouldn't.

That paired with the fact you've made a post deeming them unreasonable... makes me think you're possibly harder work than you think you are.

If people want to see you they make the time.

Deleted the post as somehow ended up on the wrong thread?!?!

lemongrizzly · 08/02/2025 17:25

The fact you’re obsessing about this may possibly explain why the person felt the need to lie to you

JudgeBread · 08/02/2025 17:30

I mean, you've learned the truth and immediately jumped on Mumsnet hoping the vipers will tear your friend apart.

Perhaps you're a touch high maintenance and their instinct was to tell a white lie for the sake of not triggering whatever this is? Then opted for the truth because their conscience got to them or they realised you might see them out and make a Reddit post about them or something.

Is an evening out with you a full-on evening (late night, going in town, bars, drink, dancing etc).

Perhaps the evening they are having is really low key? Local pub for a couple and home early?

Have they form for avoiding you or is this a one off ?
