Son has lumpy breasts

He’s nearly 13 and came into my room late last night, excitedly exclaiming he had ‘hard nipples’. Behind his nipples is a hard, rubbery lump(both sides).
this is normal in pubescent boys, right? He’s not going to end up with a set of DD’s?

Didn’t mean to post in AIBU. Sorry!

This is common at the beginning of puberty.
My DS had the same and it settled then returned.
I believe it's the surges of hormones.
Really nothing to be too concerned about. Just expect him to suddenly start raiding the fridge because he is hungry all the time!

Should say he is now well into puberty ( occasionally needs a shave) and it has not present for about a year

We’re already there! Costing me a fortune.

At puberty my son had some breast growth too. Apparently it's normal in around 50% of boys, and is temporary while their bodies adjust to their changing hormones.

The link below is to an NHS explanation:

My son is 20 now and no sign of it at all, in fact very flat and muscular.

However, I would get it checked out by your GP just to be certain or if you or your son are worried.

Surely any lumps in breast tissue should be checked by a GP as men die of breast cancer too?

Totally normal.
They will be tender and painful too, and can last quite a while.

Men yes, but not 13 year old children typically.

My DS1 had one lumpy nipple! He was most concerned about it but like others have said, it is just hormones and it disappeared as full puberty kicked in; it's very normal!

My brother had this but just on one side. His continued to grow as a lump. They removed it as day surgery in the end
