To say that if clothes are clean enough to be worn again then put them in the wardrobe or drawer

No need for "chairdrobes", "floordrobes" or over the bloody bannister.

Please help settle an argument between me and DD by saying I'm NBU

I think the solution to your problem OP is to give your daughter a basket/bin to put partially used clothes in. Keeps it neater if she's got loads out.

BCBird · 08/02/2025 11:16

Eww no. 😩

TheKeatingFive · 08/02/2025 11:17

I'm with you OP. I cannot get my head around something being clean enough to wear, but not clean enough to be put beside other clothes.

VioletSpeedwell · 08/02/2025 11:20

It's putting partly worn clothes away which is grim

But if they're grim, surely they go in the laundry basket?

OP posts:
TemporaryPosition · 08/02/2025 11:22

No, because they've been worn there is bacteria on them. I packed some clothes away once that went into storage and when they came out a couple of items has mould around cuffs and neck.

lazyarse123 · 08/02/2025 11:14

Yanbu. I put most clothes away after laying them on the bed until I can be bothered to put them away. Apart from summer dresses because they usulally want washing. I'm lucky in that I rarely sweat
My home is not big enough to have clothes strewn everywhere.
If your dd wants to do that they should be in her room.

I'm lucky in that I rarely sweat

Which is very significant. Most of the wardrobing brigade don't seem to realise that we're not all the same. Some of us are sweatier and sheddier than others. What works for one is grim for another.

But the OP is not talking about putting clothes into storage. She's talking about putting clothes in a drawer.

VioletSpeedwell · 08/02/2025 11:28

It feels like a week rarely passes on MN without me finding out another way in which I am disgusting

😂and don't forget you're an absolute Minger if you don't wash bedding after every sleep and towels after every shower!

Yabu. Hook on the back of the door or a chair.

MurdoMunro · 08/02/2025 11:33

If it’s clean enough to wear again then it gets put away. Trousers and shirts on a hanger on the door hook overnight and put away when we’re getting today’s clothes out. Vests, pants, socks, tights obviously don’t fit in this category.

Things piling up on banisters or other shared spaces get thrown in a bag in the owner’s room. They get all crumpled and disorganised but thems the consequences 🤷‍♀️

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 08/02/2025 11:35

YABVU and absolutely ridiculous tbh. You don't put worn stuff back in with the actual clean stuff, you lob it on the chair or whatever you happen to have in your bedroom.

SoScarletItWas · 08/02/2025 11:36

Everyone is being unreasonable for making me read, and therefore think about, skin flakes 😆

PickledElectricity · 08/02/2025 11:36

YABVU. My jeans have touched god knows what when I'm out and about, I don't want that contaminating clean clothes that may be in the drawers for days-months.

How old is your DD? I would suggest butting out and trying her make her own choices and laundry.

titchy · 08/02/2025 11:42

JustShaker · 08/02/2025 10:16

Not back in the wardrobe. How would you keep track of how many times they’ve been worn if you keep putting things back in the wardrobe?

This. T shirts in drawers can be worn twice. If I put a worn once t shirt back in the drawer I'll forget it's already been worn.

CheekySnake · 08/02/2025 11:42

Just out of interest, what do people do with jackets and coats that get dry cleaned maybe once a year and so are worn multiple times? Scarves? Hats? Do they forever live in a heap on a chair?

If it can be worn again, it goes back in the drawer/wardrobe. I don't have that many clothes anyway so things will be worn a second time within the same week. Any smell at all and it goes straight in the wash. Everything is natural fibres and I avoid synthetics at all cost so don't have that awful polyester sweat stink.

I don't smell, bedroom doesn't smell.

Teenage boy has a floordrobe and his room smells like feet all the bleeping time.

Clothes need airing

I will concede on the airing. Hence I have a couple of hooks on bedroom door. So knitwear will get worn, aired overnight then put away. Same with jeans.

I know there are some loons who wash knitwear and jeans after each wear.

I suspect people who wash jeans and knitwear after one wear are not buying quality items.

Quality knitwear/wool isn't meant to be washed after every wear, but jumpers from Primark and the like aren't made to last and most are not wool anyway.

Jeans aren't meant to be washed frequently either.

I don't put items back in drawers, such as t-shirts, nightwear, but I do put knitwear, jeans, wool trousers, cords, jackets and coats back in the wardrobe after they've been hung on a hanger on the back of the bedroom door for a few hours.

I'm in your camp @VioletSpeedwell

The system completely breaks down if you put stuff back in the wardrobe. If I have worn something only once and know it’s good for another one or two wears, I leave it on a separate shelf so i can keep track of it and know when it’s going to be needing a wash. If I hang it back up, I’ll forget I’ve already worn it and anarchy will prevail.

SoScarletItWas · 08/02/2025 11:49

Just out of interest, what do people do with jackets and coats that get dry cleaned maybe once a year and so are worn multiple times? Scarves? Hats? Do they forever live in a heap on a chair?

@CheekySnake I keep all my coats in the spare bedroom wardrobe. I don’t mind things mingling when they are all designed to be worn many times and not in contact with skin.

Scarves live in a drawer with belts, gloves and other accessories like slips and shapewear. Drawer has canvas box inserts so that I can separate stuff, store it neatly and be able to find a belt because all the belts live together.

TheyCallMeMrsBug · 08/02/2025 11:52

YABU but only because I am guilty of this and can’t seem to stop myself.

Reallybadidea · 08/02/2025 11:54

The OP's daughter isn't leaving her clothes lying about because it's "grim" or "disgusting" but because she's a lazy arse teenager. She needs to either put them back in the cupboard, or if that offends her sensibilities, wash them herself.

I have a little slimline coat/hat rack in the hall just for me!

Floralnomad · 08/02/2025 11:57

YABU you hang them somewhere until the next wear , you don’t put clothes that have been outdoors etc in a drawer with clothes that are completely unworn .

Reallybadidea · 08/02/2025 11:57

TemporaryPosition · 08/02/2025 11:22

No, because they've been worn there is bacteria on them. I packed some clothes away once that went into storage and when they came out a couple of items has mould around cuffs and neck.

Clothes don't go mouldy because of bacteria. They probably got damp.

Purplecatshopaholic · 08/02/2025 11:57

Nope, Team Chairdrobe here, lol

Printedword · 08/02/2025 12:00

Skirts, blazers, some jumpers or blouses and dresses can go back in the wardrobe/drawers etc. Other things I put in basket/on blanket box. I have jeans/casual trs of the week in this category and likewise a selection of tops for the week, sometimes a dress. Chair is useful for sitting on as latest batch of M&S tights are like magic gloves - ie look tiny and as if a tall person like me couldn't possibly fit them but are very stretchy. I need to sit because they difficult to put on standing up as I've always done in the past
