So I'm wary of technology such as AI etc and the speed of it's advancement, and the influences and changes it brings to society with apparently little thought for unintended (one would hope) consequences. I also think the scope for bad actors to use it for dubious intent is far greater than previous tech advancement simply due to the scale of it and the majority not having the option to opt out.

I also massively distrust Musk boy for many reasons, many to do with ideologies he appears to support that smell bad to me.

That said, I read this article and am going back and forth in my head. One the one hand it's fantastic for Norland to have this improvement to his life. He's an adult, fully informed of the risks and it is an amazing thing as described in the article.

The idea of wet-wiring is well known in science fiction, and on the surface has many potential benefits for people with brain injury, such as Norland.

Where I get hinky feelings is around the possibility of people using such technology to literally get inside people's heads. Currently our thoughts are our own unless physically expressed. These concerns crop up in the article.

I realise it's hardly likely to impact many people for a good while yet, but I wonder where it's all going.

And as a final and relatively minor note i suppose, while I appreciate the costs to Mr Musk of the technology, and the grand opportunity offered to Norland, but mate, getting the chap a suitable shower would represent sofa change....

So AIBU to think this is potentially both scary yet promising?

An accident left Noland Arbaugh paralysed, but Musk’s Neuralink brain implant allows him to control computers with his thoughts. Is it a life-changing innovation that could help millions – or the start of a dystopia where a billionaire can access our t...
