Competitions you actually win money on?

I've started entering competitions on TV to win cash, monthly subscription to Omaze, other lotteries etc. I didn't realise but now I have quite a few. Do others do this? Does anyone ever actually win? I earn a good living so not sure why but I'm getting so obsessed with saving and investing and trying to win money. Is it a middle age thing of do I really need to work another 25 years?!

Somebody wins the competition. Statistically you have as much chance as anybody else - it’s just that the odds aren’t very high. As long as you can afford the entry fees and can treat it as a bit of daydreaming fun to imagine what you’d do with all the winnings whilst accepting that’s probably not going to be something you actually have to worry about, it’s fine.

I'll manifest the win! I had a friend that was obsessed with competitions and won all sorts of trips and things. Maybe that's more realistic

Careful you’re not getting hooked. Also the Omaze houses are all money pits.

I recommend Premium Bonds as you can take the money out again.

I do "comping" as a hobby, I only ever enter the free competitions, but often the raffle sites that sell tickets have free competitions - honestly my take away is that it's really not worth spending money on for how many I enter and how few I win!

You're gambling, I think people like to think it's somehow different when it doesn't involve a betting shop but it is! Obviously a small minority win but the house always wins and the bigger the prize the more losers there have to be to pay for it!

If you like having a flutter and can afford it fair enough, but I wouldn’t see it as a reasonable way to get money - you're 99.99% likely to put more in than you get out
