Does anyone else feel like LinkedIn....

feels like a bunch of people using ChatGPT to talk to each other? It's becoming really, really weird. Part of my role is networking so I post once or twice a week about latest developments in the industry, then engage in the comments. The responses are hilarious. Just classic AI talk. Not all, but a lot. Does anyone else fing it hard to engage when you know people are using a computer to respond?

I've always thought that nobody sounds like a real person on there, most of the inspirational stories are made up to make a point, and it's the worst social app there is - but yes, I am job hunting and it's definitely getting worse.

I found my job on LinkedIn so it's definitely useful for that, but yes the Inspo posts are often really cringey. There are a few people I follow who post their research findings/jobs/links to grants and conferences etc which is helpful but everything else feels rather nauseating!

It's awful. Five minutes on there and I start to think the entire human race should be wiped out.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/02/2025 07:00

That’s why only ever connect with people I know irl (or know of) but I know that’s not possible in some jobs. It’s deeply weird yes.

Yabadabadooooo · 07/02/2025 07:02

LinkedinLunatics on Reddit is hilarious.
I am lucky I don't have too many crazies on mine but yes, some don't sound real at all. And yes. It is because they just feed from AI as you suggest. It's quite clear.

It is highly inefficient and cognitively taxing to initiate engagement, particularly after investing significant temporal and intellectual resources into composing a comprehensive post detailing research findings and soliciting input regarding current methodologies within the field.

Everybody is happy to share they’re starting an amazing new post, usually having been made redundant from their previously amazing post.

Love it.

Btw I know few people whp feed it with AI text. Mainly because English is not their first language so this makes it easier.

Also. The stories! So interesting 700 people had their maid call in sick exactly in the same way😂

They are not happy. They are DELIGHTED

Snowmanscarf · 07/02/2025 07:23

It’s changed a lot. When it started, it was a list of people, their job experience, etc. Now it’s becoming more face- book-y.

SleepDeprivedElf · 07/02/2025 07:24

I’m really enjoying it! Many of my colleagues have left Twitter and it’s filling that hole. I’m seeing a decline in boasting posts on my feed.

AgnesX · 07/02/2025 07:25

It's always been somewhere to preen and blow your own and your organisation's trumpet but some of the crap posted now is more like a mix of corporate Facebook and opinions. Some of the personalities are dreadful.

HelpMeGetThrough · 07/02/2025 07:26

LinkedIn is the place where people speak in either inspirational quotations or just post complete shite.

If it was a pub, you'd burn it down.

LinkedinLovely · 07/02/2025 07:29

You need to curate your feed! Mine is mostly marketing people I like or want to learn from so it's a nice place to spend time. Anyone shitposting gets unfollowed or blocked

MidnightFireflies · 07/02/2025 07:29

Interesting, I use it a lot and don’t experience it like this at all. Must depend on the algorithm. I do find it tiresome sometimes but I get over any social media pretty easily, apart from my IG which is a perfect mix of funny stuff, things I’m interested in, and dogs

Actually, I think you'll find they are 'stoked' 😂

MidnightPatrol · 07/02/2025 07:39

The most recent horror, is all the personal trainers using it to drum up business.

I really object to being approached in a ‘professional environment’ by someone telling me maybe my weight is holding me back, and can they help.

I probably get one a week of these now.

Januarybirthdaysarehardtomakefun · 07/02/2025 07:46

I work in Tech and use LinkedIn to share tech updates, latest events and webinars. My feed is often charity events with requests for sponsorship.

SpidersAreShitheads · 07/02/2025 07:52

I’m a copywriter and AI has absolutely decimated my industry.

I’ve been doing this for 15 years and previously had clients queuing up for my services. It’s like a wasteland now, and I’m barely scraping by.

No one even gives a shit that AI is constantly wrong. Or that when it rewords text, it frequently changes the meaning in a way that’s subtle but significant.

So bearing all of that in mind, I can’t stand looking at LinkedIn. It’s like watching the person who stole your job do it really, really badly while everyone else cheers them on.

Me? Bitter? Nooooo…… 🫣🫣😂😂

RitaFromTheRanch · 07/02/2025 08:10

It's terrible. Like the world's biggest boasters all being fake and sharing fake congratulations to each other.

Yes. It's horrible.

Are you kidding me? That is a new low.

Everyone I know seems to have become an Executive Coach. All running through woods posts and inspirational quotes. Grim.

Or they are menopause gurus.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 07/02/2025 08:16

God it's a hole these days.

I think my fave people are the 22 year old fresh graduates who are <ahem> setting up their own marketing business; the main function of which seems to be them posting perky little selfies to be liked by 400 50-year old men.

Oh the business lessons they love to share...without even ever having had a job out of uni. But hey they're 22 with nice boobs so...automatic LinkedIn influencer!

Also the people who post saying they're off on holiday for a week and won't be posting. As if anyone on the planet would notice or care!

Yabadabadooooo · 07/02/2025 08:17

I wonder if some people automated their responses.
"reply to every post mentioning X with 'Interesting!'"

NotMeNoNo · 07/02/2025 08:18

It's useful to get an idea of people's backgrounds and what they do in their organisation, but I just can't bring myself to write those "I'm thrilled to share <I went to a 2 day technical conference in Birmingham>" posts.
