An in law of mine thinks it’s weird how my family doesn’t eat a lot fruit (other than bananas randomly).

We do act a bit Royle Family ish when this particular in law is around. Ie don’t do much beyond talking to one another

We eat pretty late but that is normal in our Mediterranean culture

We could put on an act but life’s too short. Just hoping to hear that we aren’t that bad in the grand scheme of things

My in-laws are normal.
It's my family that's nuts.

Belong with my in-laws who once put baked beans with Christmas dinner!

There had just been a thread on this OP. Not being snarky .. just pointing out you might not get a lot of replies as a result

Ils had 2 time share apartments... They had 2 suitcases each.. 1 for each holiday..
Post holidays the clothes got washed and repacked asap..
They stopped taking photos as fil said it was a waste of time- they wore the same clothes and went to the same places every year!!

Are really greedy/obsessed with food. Meals are like events and they eat anything and everything and don't understand that I don't like cauliflower cheese or mash potatoes. To them it makes no sense.

getahhtmapub · 07/02/2025 00:39

Don't use any seasonings or sauces at all in food. Every meal is Meat or fish, boiled potato, boiled green veg. When we cook for them a teaspoon of sauce is politely taken treated with mass suspicion and claims of being 'posh' or 'we don't usually eat exotic food'.

Have a specific day to go to the farm shop for potatoes, flour and eggs and that day must never change. Ever. It's on the calendar in their kitchen. Even if it was their grandchild's birthday or the only day you can visit, the farm shop visit is wholly sacrosanct

Mine are obsessed with meeting people, and then acting like they have known them for years. Not even celebrities but random people like my son's friends parents or his teacher or our postman. Our MP came round hoping for voters last summer and FIL insisted on talking to him for ages. Fil then wasn't impressed when I pointed out that he wasn't even FIL's MP so he needed to stop talking and let the MP visit someone else.

We can't tell them anything unless we want the entire extended family to know and they usually give out the wrong information as well.

I don’t like mine very much, sadly.
He’s a bit of an angry old man, who didn’t work for years due to an injury, that only seemed to bother him for purposes of signing on.

When he reached retirement age, he said he might get a job driving lorries.
He didn’t of course, but that he considered it then was laughable.

They never eat vegetables. I can't understand how they are so old and seemingly healthy, when a vegetable does not pass their lips. My husband was cooking at theirs and asked his mom "what vegetables do you have?" she replied "rice or potatoes" ffs.
