Could this really be happening again?!

About 6 months ago I had the worst toothache of my life! X rays showed that a lower wisdom tooth had grown in sideways, pushed against the adjoining molar and basically made it go rotten. I had to have both teeth out. The pain was unreal, visually you couldn't see any obvious sign of decay or problems but my gum was in agony, I guess the infection was inside the tooth. I couldn't sleep or eat, genuinely wanted to rip my own face off. Anyway once removed and recovered all was fine.

I'm now getting a the start of similar pain on the other side where there is another wisdom tooth but not pressing against the molar like the other one was. I can't work out if I could really be this unlucky or if I'm just hyper aware of any pain because of what happened before.

Has anyone else had wisdom teeth that have spontaneously started causing problems? Bearing in mind the x ray from 6 months ago didn't show any decay on that side.

Obviously I will go to the dentist if it gets worse but it's very hard to get an appointment here!

By the sound of the last one I’d go to the dentist now - you don’t want that again.

However teeth trouble can set your nerves off for a while I think, so it could be that? Get it checked though.

Sounds like pericoronitis. Google it to see if it is. The gum around the wisdom tooth is infected. You need to do warm salt rinses throughout the day and get some strong mouthwash like Corsodyl. If you have a water flosser or instruments to pick out any debris from your gums then do that. But probably you will need antibiotics. It's awful pain but will go away eventually.

It's common wisdom.

I've had that before as well but that was a much more noticeable pain and swelling in the gum. It was visible and gave me an awful taste in my mouth. Antibiotics cleared that up. This one is more of a deeper, dull pain inside the tooth and into the gum. Last time it started off as a niggle but rapidly became very very painful. If it wasn't for the x rays you wouldn't be able to see anything was amiss but the x ray showed the inside of the tooth was black.

Anyway it feels a lot better today so hopefully it's just a bit of toothache rather than a full on extraction again.
