Sending 5 year old to school

So all kids in his class got there vaccinations in school yesterday but he didn’t and I’ve to bring him to the clinic at 10. School is in until 1.30pm and we’ll be back in our house by 10.30am

AIBU to want to send him to school at 11am or have to cancel my own gp app

Well hopefully you’ve emailed / phoned the school a message to say your child will be late today but otherwise there’s nothing wrong in what you’re doing.

I don't understand, will you miss your GP appointment if you take him or miss it if you don't?!

Dishwashersaurous · 06/02/2025 09:20

I don't understand either. Just drop him back after his vaccination. What's the problem?

ThatUniqueKoala · 06/02/2025 09:21

Message the school to say you'll be dropping him off at 11 due to him having a vaccination appointment. Depending on the vaccine give him a dose of Calpol before just in case it causes fever or pain at the injection site although it's unlikely to happen until a few hours later.

Why would you have to cancel your own appointment just because your DS is with you?

OwlInTheOak · 06/02/2025 09:23

Which vaccinations? I'm guessing you're in a different country given the timing of school ending and 5 year old vaccines so asking here probably isn't going to be very helpful. Does your country not usually allow children to be dropped off part way through the day? If that's the case have you spoken to them about the situation, and what was their reply?

SpringBunnyHopHop · 06/02/2025 09:23

He should be dropped off at school asap. Why would he need the whole day off?

Lots of appointments aren't appropriate for children to be at (MH related, gynecology related, breast lump being noticed etc)

Thanks everyone I did send him in, he’s my first child and I didn’t know if it was appropriate to send him in as he only started in September. I had emailed school but they never got back to me which is why I posted here. but then they did and said it was ok. Just not aware of the protocols when it comes to schools fully yet
also no my appointment wouldn’t have been suitable for to have my child with me

I always took mine back to school after an appointment. It's normal.

Dishwashersaurous · 06/02/2025 16:14

Glad you got it sorted and yep completely normal to just go in at whatever time after an appointment..dentist, music exam etc.

Schools are used to it

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 12:15

Just drop back afterwards. Totally fine.
