To give DD a party?

DD is a mid-September baby and will be starting school this year. We have a birthday party every year, always organised by my ex, so DP and I want to organise her 5th. Was talking to DM about it and she said it would be pointless to invite her new classmates as she would hardly know them yet. AIBU to think it would be a good idea to invite them?

Also, she loves Frozen (like absolutely obsessed) so will be wanting Elsa/Anna there. So not sure if I should invite girls only? Would boys be interested?

Thinking of a soft-play venue btw as this is what we have done for every birthday.

Yes go for it. It'll be a nice way for her to make friends and for you to meet the other parents. I think at the age you have to either invite all the girls or the whole class.

definitely do a party - it is a great way to make new friends and settle into the class.

as above, go with either all-the-girls or all-the-class. I think smaller is better at that age.

We had early September birthdays this year (DD is in reception). It was a great way to get to know people! We had a WhatsApp group sorted some point in the summer, but if that doesn't happen for you then invitations early in September would be a nice way to start term.

DD1 started school 4 weeks before her 5th birthday. We had a party at home with the 4 girls who had been at her preschool and who had gone to the same primary school. She hadn't been at school long enough to have formed new friendships and she was in a composite P1/P2 class so it what worked with us.
