To think once you come off a diet - it’s VERY difficult to get back on it - even if you’ve lost quite a bit of weight on it?

I started a diet on Jan 1st of last year, lost 3 and a half stone up until the end of May, through calorie control and exercise - but i then came off it and found it very difficult to go back on.

I think it’s hard to lose weight through diet & exercise any time - but if you start on Jan -1st you know you have to keep going ‘cos of the significance of the date. But for example, starting again on June 16th, say, is VERY difficult -because - how is the 16th of June different from 17th etc ??! What I’m saying is - if you start on this day you’ve always got an excuse to put it off to next day.

Bu the way - good luck 🤞 to everyone who’s on a weight loss mission - it’s VERY difficult and I sympathise !!! We’ve got this ! 🙌

Dieting is hard, sure. But I have never struggled to diet because of the date.

January 1st, June 16th, it’s all the same. It’s about deciding and keeping to that decision.

I started dieting randomly early November. Went really well, almost a stone before Christmas and then Christmas, new year, anniversary etc happened and I can't get back into it. I've tried for two weeks now.

It's all about where your head is and whether you want the weight loss more than the habit you are trying to change.

Do you mean you put on weight after so now need to loose it again?

In which case I think the being on / not on a diet might be the problem. Obviously you are going to eat less when you need to actually lose, but it might help to think of it as changing your diet to eat healthily going forward, and when you reach your target weight you can eat a bit more, but you are still basically following the same plan.

Don’t think dates have much to do with it.

Realistically - very true

This is so true - it really does depend where your head is

Yes but even if you don’t put on that much weight it’s often hard to get back into it

It's not about being on a permanent 'diet'.

It's breaking unhealthy habits to make the change permanent.

It's a shift in your mindset. A change of lifestyle.

The cycle of dieting, losing weight, going back to old habits, putting weight on, dieting, losing weight, back to old habits etc..... that's the cycle that needs changing.

I KNOW ALL THIS IN MY HEAD!!!! But I'm guilty of being a yo-yo.

I have tried this year though to be a bit more consistent and it is paying off (even tho it's only February lol)

Bought a walking pad, so go on that daily. That's a habit I have now formed. In turn, this has made me cut down drinking because to fit this in to my day, I need to get up at 6am to get 5k in before getting ready for work.

Also, having our first holiday in a while in July and so I have a goal to work towards, which is important for me.

I still have a drink at the weekend like.

I have the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day in work. Prep it then night before so it's done and no temptation to go for something different.

Half the battle is being organised I think.

Good luck everyone.

Agree with others. The biggest part of your life should be spent on maintenance, not dieting, coming off, putting on weight and dieting again. You, ideally, diet once. You don't have to come off the diet for an event. You have one meal and you get back on track with the very next meal. If you have this mindset, you don't have to wait till January the 1st or Monday. You start making better choices from your very next meal.

It was a supe reffort to lose the weight but as you've found out 3 and a half stone in not many more months is not really sustainable.

We give too much justification to dates and 'treats' etc when as a pp said they are meaningless.

June 16th can be the start of YOUR new year. Every day is the opportunity to start again.

A permanent change to lifestyle is the only way to be consistent, but I completely agree it's bloody hard!!
