to be absolutely heartbroken that ds has lost his blue mouse

I know I am being pathetic but this comes on the back of a lot of other stuff.

Today in town ds (16 months) dropped his blue mouse - which he has had since birth - and it looks like he is gone for good. I think he dropped him either inside or jsut outside Debenhams. Went all round the store, asked all the street cleaners, have rung lost property at the police station, nothing. It's made by Petit Bateau and has been discontinued so we can't get another one.

Ds cried and cried at bedtime and only went to sleep because he was so exhausted. I'm dreading him waking up in the night and dreading tomorrow in general. He is too little to understand where he's gone or to tell us where he dropped him.

I know this all sounds ridiculous because I know a lot of you have far more serious problems than this but I feel so heartbroken about it and I can't stop crying. We've been through a lot lately as a family - had a mc at 10 weeks last month, plus we're upping sticks and moving away in a couple of weeks and trying desperately to sell our house at about the worst time in years and I've been holding it all together really well but just feel like this is the final straw.

Sorry this is so rambling. Just needed to let off steam.

Hi guys, was doing ok this morning but have just burst into tears again reading all your kind messages! Am listening to ds trying to go to sleep upstairs as we speak - he's singing and making fire engine noises at the moment, no tears yet but he keeps saying Blue Mouse's name!

Thanks for the tips about ebay france - I had not thought of that. The ones you have posted are v similar, except ds's said 'mon petit ange' on its tummy, but I'm not going to be that fussy if I can get something similar!

Dh has tried petit bateau stockists in the UK but no joy. He has ordered a rabbit which is similar and that may arrive tomorrow. We have also begun a poster campaign in town! Thanks for not all thinking I am mad, I think everyone at playgroup thinks I am bonkers after I bent everyone's ears about it this morning!

It's silly really. I've been holding it all together so well through the mc and all the stress of impending house move and this has just knocked me for six.

I am off to do some cleaning now to take my mind off it for a bit. That's real desperation for you!

bluemousemummy, is this any good?

Hope you're ok!

bluemousemummy · 08/05/2008 13:28

Hi rosmerta, the mouse on there is similar but is much smaller than Blue Mouse I think. Thanks for looking though.

Dh has been back to Debenhams but no joy yet.

Have trawled the internet for about an hour now and no luck. Dh has been in contact with a stockist in the UK who says there may be some in France but they are on a bank holiday til Monday apparently.

Local paper say that they won't run a story as it's not newsworthy.

Ds settled ok in the end this afternoon but it's not just sleeping - Blue Mouse used to really calm him down at other times as well. You could hand him Blue Mouse and he would immediately start sucking his fingers and sit down or come for a cuddle. And at nappy changes he would generally pacify him enough so that he wouldn't roll around the place!

Am just desperately hoping ds takes to this rabbit! And that it arrives tomorrow.

Is it like this one but blue?

duchesse · 08/05/2008 14:59

Incidentally, here are the search terms you need to search on Ebay Fr.

Poor you. It sounds like it's just been the final straw for you.

Do try posters. I saw one in our old neighbourhood offering a GBP150 reward for a tatty little rabbit that had been loved almost threadbare. I thought ooooh, now there's a household that's not getting much sleep at the moment.

Do you have a photo? I'm not suggesting you be quite so excessive about the reward, but even a modest one might prompt somebody to ring you.

rosmerta · 08/05/2008 16:13

ok bluemouse, I'll keep looking just in case

bluemousemummy · 08/05/2008 20:33

Thanks everyone - yes duchesse, it is like that but it said mon petit ange on its tummy, although that's not all that important! I think I have just bought something on ebay france but I had to buy it with some clothes as well but I don't care about that. I'm also not sure whether they will post it to the UK but I have emailed them (in REALLY bad French) to find out!

Managed to find a Petit Bateau rabbit today which is very very similar and ds seems to like it so that's seeing us through until we can get a mouse, so I am less tearful tonight. That said, it still took over an hour to settle him this evening

ninedragons - dh has been sticking loads of posters up around town stating that there's a reward so fingers crossed - although I really think he is gone for good We don't have a photo but we've put a good description on there.

Thanks so much for all your help guys, honestly I really mean that - it's much appreciated by everyone in our house!

If you're in the business of changing toys (And their rabbits are cute too, aren't they?), have you come across Moulin Roty toys? They are lovely, and quite similar to Petit Bateau, and are available in quite a few places in the UK.
