At work, our department who had shared responsibilities was split a couple of years ago. One department (let’s call them red) focused on an area of the business demand and the other department (let’s call them green) focused on the other areas. The red department received a percentage increase in salary due to the “type” of demand which is seen as more “challenging” as it was now more concentrated rather than diluted. The green department did not. I agree this is fair, again due to the type of work that the concentrated demand which had been allocated. (Please bear in mind however that we were all once one single team that shared ALL of the demand, regardless of type). However, over the years, that department has at times struggled with resource/head count to get the work done efficiently.
The business have now decided to introduce a plan which will see the green department take on some of the demand from the red department but without any uplift in compensation.
Having previously brought this up with management, it was brushed off and I was not happy with this as I feel it is unjustified and wrong. What do you think? AIBU? Would you take on extra work willingly knowing that your red deptartment colleagues are getting paid more?
