Anxiety about my 7 year old - talk me down

Cheesespaghetti · 03/02/2025 18:35

My 7 year old woke up this morning crying out and we went into his bedroom and he’d been sick on his bedding - it was mostly clear and didn’t really have the normal ‘vomit’ smell. It was weirdly slinky too (sorry if TMI).
He’s been totally fine since - eaten as normal, playing - totally fine. No runny 💩 either.

Now I do have OCD and intrusive thoughts, but I am panicking that he’s got a brain tumour. I keep reading that being sick in the morning, particularly in children, in the absence of other symptoms, can be a sign of this.

I am terrified it’ll happen again tomorrow morning.

Can someone help me rationalise please?

Sounds like a one off. Nothing to be concerned about.
No other symptoms likely a bug

It's worrying when kids get ill

Goldengirl123 · 03/02/2025 18:38

He’s only been sick once? Seriously, you need to calm down or you will pass anxiety on to your child in the future

mynameiscalypso · 03/02/2025 18:39

I can understand how difficult it is to shake these thoughts but the absolutely most overwhelmingly likely answer is that he has a sick bug. There are lots going round and it's definitely not unusual to wake up being sick.

Has he had a cold recently? My daughter has sometimes made herself sick coughing , and only brought up mucus.
She's also 7 btw

FastAndLast · 03/02/2025 18:39

He’ll be fine honestly. Mine have randomly been sick in the morning.

Cheesespaghetti · 03/02/2025 18:39

It’s the fact he’s been sick once (and it was weird consistency too) but no other symptoms either, which is the main concern for me. No signs of any illness.

Ds2 did thus a couple of months ago in the middle of the night, woke me up crying saying he'd been sick in bed. I got him sorted out then went to deal with the bed, just liquid slimy sick, no food at all. Just the once. Felt sick for a while then fine after a day. Some other kids at school had also been sick once

PubicZirconia · 03/02/2025 18:42

Does he have any form of cough/bronchitis?Maybe he was coughing up mucus that made him sick?

I'm not any kind of medical professional but I wouldn't worry over one such incident. How was he today otherwise?

pizzaHeart · 03/02/2025 18:42

Slimy? It was from nose. Does he have a bit of a cold ? He was probably in a bad sleeping position and mucus from nose went down. He tried to get rid of it and it caused sickness.,

seriouslynonames · 03/02/2025 18:44

I have had similar thoughts in the past about my kids when one has an illness or symptom that seems worrying or unusual or unexpected. It's hard to push those thoughts away but until you have a bit more data to go on all you have is a one off vomit which is most likely a mild tummy upset. IF it happens again in a week or two or IF it happens every morning for the next for days, then it's time to speak to the GP to see if there might be something else going on. I hope you can sleep tonight, the overwhelming likelihood is DS is fine, try to keep that at the front of your mind.

Both of mine have had sickness bugs with no other symptoms apart from a single vomit. We only knew it was a bug because they came down with it two days apart, and then two days DH also threw up.

Haven't you posted already about this? I seen to remember lots of people giving you reassurance

Cheesespaghetti · 03/02/2025 19:15

No that wasn’t me

My daughter has this sometimes, she's nearly 4.

Sometimes it's just one vomit in the early hours, other times it's a few. Often quite mucusy and not much to it, I think because she's mostly digested her food.

She usually gets it when she's excited/her routine has changed/she has a day of junky food. She's right as rain a couple of hours later when she wakes up, eats normally, feels fine and full of energy.

It happen a few nights over Christmas for example, but has mostly stopped since then.

Cheesespaghetti · 03/02/2025 19:22

We had been at soft play during the day yesterday so I guess it was an exciting day of sorts and he’d eaten cake/sweets etc and run around on the play equipment but that was much earlier in the day.

We all had a nasty virus a few weeks ago that floored us and he had a cough and cold symptoms then (he ended up on antibiotics for a chest infection) but nothing since until now. He occasionally clears his throat but that’s it.

@PubicZirconia

He’s been totally fine otherwise. A bit tired and wasn’t keen on eating much this morning but scoffed his lunch and dinner down and chatty/active as normal.
