Hello was hoping for some advice please.
my husband has been offered a job in Jersey (channel island) we would be moving from Scotland, have a 23month old and I am pregnant with our second baby.
has anyone had any experience or advice on this?
would I be entitled to free maternity care Or would I need to go private? I also have to have a C-section, any advice on this?
would be interested to know if health care is free in Jersey and what nurseries are like ?

sorry for lots of questions I’m struggling to find information online, any other tips or information you think would be helpful would be very much appreciated

thank you :)

In terms of better lifestyle I mean having better weather and being able to do more with the kids outdoors and being close to beaches. Low crime rate too from what I’m reading anyway.

i am reading a lot of people find it cliquey. Have you lived there? I do appreciate the honest feedback ☺️

I haven't but a very good friend does. I visit often. Just going by her feedback. I think it probably depends on what type of person you are/income etc. She has some friends but has found it cliquey and children's friendships the same. Often all a bit shallow and not much going on. Her family is higher income bracket - I don't know if that makes that side of things worse to be honest.

Is it a permanent role or a contract? I have through work had a lot of contact with Jersey and we have secondees on island. It is very insulated. They have a huge problem keeping people on island. The majority of kids leave as soon as they can. States of Jersey seem to have a lot of money to spend at the moment, particularly on infrastructure but they don't have enough people to do it.

I would want a package with rental included.

Hey, no they are not helping with accommodation. I understand it’s very expensive to rent, do you have any advice on this? Thank you ☺️

It is mega expensive to rent I lived there for 3 years we had 2 good salaries as both working…I found it restrictive and boring tbh !

I haven't needed to know this myself but I know people with kids with SEN and SEMH needs that are really disappointed and frustrated with the provision. Just support not there, poor awareness and training.

I think whether it's a short term contract or a potential life time move would swing it for me. There's so little provision as kids get older and as a PP said lots will be moving off the island if they don't want to work in finance or hospitality. And obviously uni will mean a move too.
