to find this rather sad

dd2 is four and in reception.

Today we took dd1 to Rainbows and dd2 took her teddy in a dolly pram. When we had dropped dd1 off I suggested going to the park. Dd2 cried and cried and said she didn't want to go, which really surprised me as she normally loves it. Eventually it came out that she was worried that there would be children from her school who would see her with a dolly pram and laugh at her. I thought that was really sad...

I was shocked last night when watching child of our time I asked DD which body she had and which she'd prefer to have (they ahd a range of pics from overweight to underweigt) she chose an average body for ehrs, but the underweight one for what she wants to be, she is seven.
I have to say that pretty much broke my heart, I had tears in my eyes, when did all this stuff start mattering to children?

But you did ask her. It puts the idea in her head surely? 'which would you prefer?' It kind of, perhaps, maybe leads to the thought in her own head.... oh, I should not want the one I already have then....

Just a thought. But yeah, you're right, very telling that she then points at the skinny girl.

I was such a little girlie girl, a child for years and years. I put it down to the school I went to til 12. It was very sheltered and 'lovely', where the headmaster treated us all like children. With no outside influence to make us feel that this was somehow wrong, we were all quite happy to carry on playing with dolls, making dens in the woods, and pretending to be My Little Pony!! (!) Aaaahhh... those were the days. So carefree.....

Actually, I tried to make sure it wasn't at all leading and asked her if she liked her body being that shape or if she thought any of the otehrs were better, rather than a which do you prefer type question.
I'm just glad she said 'famous' was the thing she'd least like to be out of the words they used later on in the show.
