Vacancy advert does not specify annual leave allowance

I applied for a job and have an interview. On paper it looks good, except it does not state the annual leave allowance.
I'm only on an admin level & the prospective new job is on the same level, could possibly get a bit more money.
However, my annual leave in my current role is 25 days plus bh. There is no way I want to go back to four days. I'd rather have the extra al than salary.
Would I be out of line if I enquired about this before the interview? If the advert stated it was only 20 days plus bh I wouldn't even bother applying. I don't want to waste my time, & the interviewers time any more than I have to.
The interview offer has not come via an agency, but directly from the company, so the option of discreetly enquiring is not there.

It’s fine to do what you’re suggesting but I always think it’s good to go to interviews for practice, so would do the interview first and if you’re offered the job then ask about the holidays.

Good point, thanks. I haven't been for an interview for a long time

Of course, you should definitely ask the HR contact.
If they reject you for that, you wouldn't want to work for them anyway.

No I would ask. I went for 2 positions (different times / years) both didn’t state annual leave. Both only gave 20 (lowest) plus bank hols and of the 20 days 5 had to be taken over Christmas, so really 3! so when I was offered the jobs I declined and told them why

YouveGotAFastCar · 03/02/2025 17:35

To be honest I think companies now see “extra” holiday as so generous that it’d almost certainly be mentioned in the job description; so I’d expect it to be the legal minimum, but there’s no harm in asking really.

Lazydomestic · 03/02/2025 17:53

Depends on whether there is an option to “buy” annual leave and how much the pay increases is

You've got to know! Does it state anything on the website on pages that would attract potential new staff to read about - if not then phone the HR or the contact

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 03/02/2025 19:05

@CatsWhiskerz I agree, they should state it in the advert, so you know from the beginning. I know I'm lucky to get 25 days plus bh. If a company is not upfront on their advert about what the terms will be it sends an alarm bell ringing in my head.
You want to attract the best people when there's a shortage of workers, then you need to show them what you've got to offer.

Well I did email to ask the question in the end. They answered in a friendly manner so i dont think they'll be bothered that I asked.
I've withdrawn my application as its just the legal minimum of 20 days plus bh.
Glad I asked the question as its saved me from wasting theirs & my time.
